At Enterprise Connect 2026 this week, Zoom introduced AI-first productivity canvases — AI Docs, AI Slides, and AI Sheets — alongside the expanded AI Companion 3.0. All of these tools are now available across Zoom Workplace, Zoom Phone, and the Zoom CX portfolio. These announcements signal the company’s intent to shift the platform’s role, moving it from being a communication utility to a “system of action” that integrates conversations with downstream workflows and deliverables across various business systems.

This platform strategy focuses on orchestrating actions across meetings, chat, contact centers, and third-party tools in Zoom’s unified environment. For users, this should reduce friction between collaboration and service workflows; for buyers, it offers an alternative for coordinating work in multi-vendor environments.

Orchestrating Workflows from Conversations and Interactions

The new approach is most evident in how the platform captures and uses data from live interactions. The updates link interaction data with automation and workflow orchestration. Meetings and customer interactions become primary inputs to processes spanning multiple applications. AI Companion 3.0 now runs across Zoom Workplace, Zoom Phone, and Workvivo, featuring a conversational interface for data retrieval and task execution. This builds on an existing trend within the Zoom user base; usage data shows that monthly active users for AI Companion more than tripled by the end of its most recent fiscal year (which ended January 31), indicating increased reliance on automated assistance.

New capabilities within the Custom AI Companion enable organizations to deploy agents that retrieve information, update records, and execute tasks across external systems such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Google Drive. These agents use a visual builder and templates tailored for sales, marketing, and IT to minimize manual follow-up after interactions. In practical terms, this can mean that a user leaves a customer call with pre-generated CRM notes, follow-up tasks, and drafts ready for review.

Within Zoom CX and Zoom Revenue Accelerator (ZRA), updated features such as AI Expert Assist 3.0 and Customer Workflow Orchestration leverage AI to guide human customer service and sales agents and automate system-of-record updates across CRM and ticketing platforms. This approach extends to webinars and events through analytics and automated key-moment identification, with all of these improvements intended to extract more data-driven value from virtual experiences.

Generating Structured Content with AI-First Productivity Canvases

While the tools already discussed focus on process automation, a parallel set of updates addresses the need for structured content creation. The introduction of AI Docs, AI Slides, and AI Sheets integrates generative productivity tools directly into the workplace environment. These canvases use conversation context to generate structured documents, spreadsheets, and presentations that can be further refined or exported to other tools.

AI Docs functions as a workspace where meeting insights and related data are captured and organized. AI Sheets converts conversational data into tables and formulas, allowing for natural-language interaction to support data entry and analysis. AI Slides can generate decks based on meeting discussions and brand templates, and enable real-time collaborative editing.

These canvases integrate with AI Companion to aggregate context from chat, phone, and connected apps. Content is compatible with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and various CRM platforms.

Market Context and Strategic Enterprise Implications

While Microsoft 365 Copilot and Google Gemini define the suite-embedded AI market, other UC and CX vendors also offer AI assistants that connect interactions to downstream systems. Across the board, AI is shifting from passive summarization to active task execution, and platforms that combine conversation context with system data are better positioned to support these agentic workflows.

That said, these capabilities also increase the need for robust controls and observability. Indeed, managing the content lifecycle across platforms requires a governance strategy to balance productivity, security, clear AI data boundaries, and compliance.

There should be plenty of upsides. For decision-makers, expanded AI capabilities enable quicker movement from dialogue to structured output. New agentic features in sales and service workflows can provide real-time guidance and better visibility into interaction patterns. To realize these benefits, organizations need to articulate clear operating models for AI agents, including workflow ownership and approval for automated actions.

For organizations using Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, Zoom’s new approach layers orchestration on top of existing stacks. This may appeal to enterprises automating conversations with external systems while retaining their primary suite. Trade-offs include integration work, policy synchronization, and monitoring to ensure that AI aligns with organizational standards.

The next phase for Zoom itself is to establish repeatable deployment patterns, reference architectures, and clear governance for the updated platform. As enterprises operate in multi-vendor environments, the effective implementation and scaling of automated capabilities will determine the impact of these tools.
