I was able to build weaver using APKBUILD, but optional dependencies are generally uninstalled after package compilation, so those *-dev packages were not present when I tried this. with newer qt6-webengine, youtube works with weaver in allpine now. I am noticing occasionally unresponsive weaver window which needs restart of weaver. I have also noticed similar thing with telegram-desktop (on both arch and alpine) which also uses qt6. There is bug report https://github.com/telegramdesktop/tdes … sues/17296 for telegram, have you noticed similar thing with weaver?

I don't know how to reproduce this with weaver, yet. It is easy to reproduce with telegram though (as in linked bug report)

If you can, let me know.  I don't use telegram.  From reading that bug report, I suspect there may be some interaction with the WM/compositor on whether or not symptoms would be detected.

Hello, I have a problem in setting some attributes in the config file, mainly the ForceDarkMode, I have it =true in the .config/weaver/config.conf, but it is non effective (tested on google.com, yt and wikipedia.org), I also tried 'JavascriptEnabled=false' and is ineffective (pages like yt and google are rendered normally) however there are settings that are successfully applied, like 'ShowScrollBars=true' , Is this a limitation or what, unfort. I don't know what exactly to provide with this comment to make things more clear,

Here's a blast from the past.  I've not touched weaver's code in over two years - so I'm just thrilled it built successfully and functions [1].

Building just via "make" is correct - it would fail if dependencies were not found, but if `make` completes successfully, then you have a proper build.

Your configuration file is good.  ForceDarkMode is a new setting since I last worked on this, so that'd not work yet - I'll have to add that in [2].  But the javascript setting should apply.  It should be easy enough to trace down why the javascript setting isn't working, but give me a day or two to get some time to tinker with that.

[1] Note: many would point out that using an outdated browser can be risky, but that doesn't really apply here.  As long as weaver is built against an up-to-date webengine, there's no concern with weaver's wrapper code being a bit dated ... except that new settings will not be available until I add them.

[2] And hopefully upstream has made the web attributes into a Q_ENUM by now which would greatly simplify all the settings code and make it so I didn't need to manually add each new setting that becomes available from upstream.

EDIT:

I've just updated weaver to include new web attribute settings include ForceDarkMode.  I've tested here and both ForceDarkMode and JavascriptEnabled are working properly.  Could you retrieve the new code, rebuild and test again, and let me know which of these settings are working vs failing for you?

I have been tinkering with weaver for the past few days and:
- There might be an issue in parsing the values in '[General]' section, they are ineffective and always work with only default values (tried on CloseKey only), I tried to investigate in this further and found out that this is related to section parsing or whatever (I'm not very informant about qt), but upon trying to modify the source code and trying to remove the section part entirely : 

value("General/CloseKey", "Ctrl+d")  -> value("CloseKey", "Ctrl+d") 

and this actually worked, my CloseKey assignment in the config file is now effective (both before or after the [General] section)

- Another thing, I was trying to add a few more shortcuts for the basic navigation actions (mainly back and forward), and I managed to introduce this functionality in the code so that I don't have to invoke weaver with back/forward actions, So I'am asking if this is relevant to you that I contribute with them

Nice catch on the [General] section failing.  I confirmed the problem and that your solution worked - but that was immensely unsatisfying until I found related bug reports, apparently there's an aspect of how Qt handles ini files that a General section is created by default, and any settings in it are - apparently - accessible only without specifying the section name.  I've just push the fix for that.

I'd be happy to look at what you implemented for Back / Forward, but I'm not clear on your description.  Most key binding can / should be done in user-scripts - there's an example of a keybinding script provided in the source repo.  Note that while these are written in JS, userscripts are (supposed to be) processed even if / when all other JS is disabled in the browser.

Hi, I started using weaver again (with archlinux this time).

I am not able to go back from opened PDF file. After opening PDF from any website, which opens with inbuilt QT pdf viewer, weaver keybindings for back/forward stops working and I am not able to go back.

I have very little experience with proxies, but I just pushed a code revision that should implement SOCKS5 for weaver.  This is configured for now via the the required environment variable "weaver_proxy_host".  If this variable is set in the environment that launches weaver, it will enable Qt6's SOCKS5 proxy and will pick up the optional additional environment variables of "weaver_proxy_port", "weaver_proxy_username", and "weaver_proxy_password".

If you use this, some requirements:

1) Test it.  Do not assume it is working properly, test it, then test it some more.  As such settings can be used for security purposes I urge again, do not assume it is working properly until you have thoroughly tested it.  I am happy to work to implement this better, but I take no responsibility for it failing to enable properly and provide the desired / intended security.

2) Watch here for changes.  If this works, I'll look into better ways of configuring the settings, likely by using more generic system-wide variable names.  And each change in the code will require more testing to confirm it is working properly.

3) Note that settings are application-wide.  The environment variables must be set for the initial launch of the first weaver window.  All subsequent windows are part of the same process and use the same proxy settings.  Having different proxy settings for different windows would take more work and I'm not sure I'd be motivated to implement or support that (not that I don't recognize the value of such goals, but it's just out of scope for the simplistic goals of weaver).

But the page says "you are not using tor" and displays my real IP. My tor service is running properly and I am able to connect using firefox.

If you just don't have a 'back' feature on browser, it means the browser is incognito.

You might disagree on that, based on the fact that modern browsers have a 'back' feature even in incognito mode, but yeah. This is it.

The AI seemed to pick it up very quickly, for some strange reason.

Oops - sorry I lost track of this Docbroke.

I'm not sure why the proxy settings don't work.  AFAICT I've implemented it precisely according to the QT docs to use the proxy system they built in to qt6-webengine and that's the only option available to me as I'd trust them to do it right (or right enough).  I wouldn't think of trying to implement something like that myself - at least not in software I'd share for others to use as it would provide a likely-false sense of security (as I am not qualified to know if I did it properly).

But also more broadly, weaver is quite sadly effectively abandoned.  I am no longer comfortable using it myself.  It met every goal I'd want in a browser for quite some time.  But the web has become such a cesspool of ads, and trackers, and yet newer infestations that even browsing a simple page is unmanageable without a powerful add / tracker blocker.  For years an extensive /etc/hosts block list worked well, but that is no longer sufficient (at least for me to comfortably use a browser).

So I faced a choice of building a plug-in system for weaver that would allow the use of a well-respected third party blocker (e.g., uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, Ghostery, or something along those lines) - either that or set aside weaver in favor of one of the major browsers that can use those blockers.  For my own use I opted for the latter.  It was a hard choice and I was sad to have to make it - but fighting off the ever increasing onslaught of shit-on-the-web is just far more than I can handle.

If anyone else has interest in taking over weaver, feel free to fork the code and run with it.  And let me know if there is interest in adopting the AUR package as I'll gladly hand it off.  For the time being I'll not yet orphan it on the AUR due to the current influx of malicious actors adopting orphaned packages.  I'll keep it under my name so anyone who tries to build it will - at worst - get my old code with accidental bugs rather than some AI-generated code with deliberate malware.
