Heat’s Giannis Backup Plan Reveals 3 Superstar Trade Targets

The Miami Heat are preparing to go all-in this offseason with a few young stars emerging as potential backup plans if Giannis Antetokounmpo is out of reach.

The Miami Heat are preparing to go all-in for a superstar this offseason. They finished 43-39 and suffered a tough Play-In exit, forcing the front office to consider major changes. The goal is clear: return to contention in the Eastern Conference.

The headlining target has always been Giannis Antetokounmpo. But if Miami cannot pull him away from the Milwaukee Bucks, three other star names stand out as strong alternatives.

Ja Morant Offers the Heat the Highest Upside Swing

Ja Morant is the most realistic star who could become available. After a 25-57 season, the Memphis Grizzlies look closer to a reset than a retool. ESPN reported earlier this year that Memphis explored trade scenarios involving Morant, and those questions remain.

Even in a 20-game season, Morant averaged 19.5 points and 8.1 assists. More importantly, he gives Miami something it lacks: downhill pressure. He collapses defenses, creates easy looks, and elevates pick-and-roll actions with Bam Adebayo.

There is real risk here. Injuries have limited Morant over the past three seasons, and his efficiency has dipped at times. Still, Miami would bet on a fresh start. The hope is that he returns to the fringe MVP level he reached just a few seasons ago.

Zion Williamson Is the Ultimate Bet on Heat Culture

Zion Williamson is the most fascinating gamble on the board. At 25, he averaged 21.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists this season. When healthy, he remains one of the most dominant interior forces in the league.

The fit is clear. Miami needs rim pressure and physicality. Williamson provides both while easing the offensive burden on Adebayo and Tyler Herro. But this move goes beyond basketball. It is a culture bet.

Miami’s conditioning standards and accountability system rank among the strictest in the NBA. If any organization can unlock Williamson’s consistency, it is this one.

With spacing from players like Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell, and either Norman Powell or Tyler Herro, Williamson would have more room to operate. That spacing has often been missing in New Orleans. Combined with Miami’s structure, he could quickly emerge as a No. 1 option. The biggest concern, as always, is health.

Donovan Mitchell Is the Cleanest Star Fit

Donovan Mitchell may be the cleanest fit, but his availability depends on several factors. He has one guaranteed year left on his deal. If the Cleveland Cavaliers fall short again, pressure could build quickly.

Miami has long shown interest, and Mitchell’s connection with Adebayo strengthens the case. On the court, the appeal is simple. Mitchell is a proven playoff scorer who can carry an offense late in games. That is something Miami has lacked.

The Heat thrived in the past with Jimmy Butler leading deep playoff runs. Mitchell offers a more polished three-level scoring profile. Paired with Adebayo and coach Erik Spoelstra, the fit makes sense.

A deal still requires Cleveland to underperform again. However, the Cavaliers have won just one playoff series over the last three seasons. That leaves the door open.

At the end of the day, Giannis is the “whale” that Pat Riley is looking for and he is the top priority. But as far as consolation prizes are concerned, these are some perfect “plan B” options to still get this team back into the title contending picture that has avoided them for the last four seasons.
