Kristaps Porzingis injury update

The Golden State Warriors are one win away from securing a playoff berth, but they enter Friday night’s Play-In Tournament matchup against the Phoenix Suns with fresh injury concerns. Golden State advanced after defeating the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, setting up a win-or-go-home game with the Western Conference’s No. 8 seed at stake.

The biggest new concern surrounds Kristaps Porzingis, who has been listed as questionable because of right ankle soreness. Porzingis played a major role in the Warriors’ win over the Clippers, finishing with 20 points, five rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and one steal in 28 minutes. His status now becomes central as the Golden State prepares for another short turnaround postseason game.

The Warriors are also still without Jimmy Butler, who remains out for the season after suffering a torn ACL in January. With Butler unavailable and Porzingis uncertain, Golden State could be forced to rely heavily on its veteran core led by Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Al Horford.

Porzingis has been an important addition for Golden State and was one of the difference-makers against the Clippers. His ability to stretch the floor, protect the rim, and provide interior scoring adds a different dimension to the Warriors alongside Curry and Green.

If he is unable to play on Friday, Golden State would lose one of its top frontcourt options against a Phoenix team that features size and depth. Horford, now in his 19th NBA season, would likely see an expanded role. Gary Payton II could also be asked to log more minutes in smaller lineups.

The Warriors are already missing Quinten Post, who remains out because of right foot injury management. That leaves Steve Kerr with fewer frontcourt combinations entering one of the most important games of the season.

Golden State has leaned on resilience throughout the year, but losing Porzingis for Friday would create a difficult challenge after an emotionally and physically taxing win in Los Angeles two nights earlier.

Jimmy Butler’s Absence Still Impacts Golden State Warriors Playoff Push

Butler’s absence continues to shape the Warriors’ postseason outlook. The veteran forward suffered a torn ACL on January 19 and was ruled out for the rest of the 2025-26 season.

Before the injury, Butler had been productive in his first full season with Golden State, averaging 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 51.9% from the field in 38 games.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Warriors were already preparing for the likelihood that Butler would also miss the start of next season while recovering. ACL rehabilitation timelines commonly extend nine to 12 months.

Without Butler, Golden State has had to adjust its rotation and redistribute offensive creation duties. Curry remains the primary engine, while Green’s playmaking and defense have become even more important.

Friday’s matchup now places even more pressure on Golden State’s healthy veterans. The Warriors need one more win to claim the final playoff spot and advance to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round.

Phoenix enters with injury questions of its own, as Mark Williams and Grayson Allen are listed as questionable. But for Golden State, the immediate focus is Porzingis’ ankle and whether he can suit up.

If he cannot, the Warriors will again be forced to lean on experience, shot-making, and urgency in another elimination setting.
