Jayson Tatum moved quickly to ease fears about his health following a concerning Game 6 exit, saying he expects to play in a decisive Game 7 for the Boston Celtics.

After leaving Thursday night’s loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in the third quarter, Tatum clarified that what appeared to be a calf issue was not as serious as initially feared.

“I wasn’t overly concerned,” Tatum said. “It’s not like that big of a deal.”

ClutchPoint’s Tomer Azarly reported during the game that Tatum went back to the locker room and had an ice pack on his calf when he returned to the bench.

“You guys probably saw when I went to the back, saw me on the bike — my leg just was a little stiff when I came out third quarter,” Tatum said.

Tatum emphasized that the discomfort was more about tightness than structural damage, a key distinction with Game 7 looming.

The All-NBA forward also revealed that the issue involved his other leg, not the one he injured last postseason — a detail that could significantly reduce long-term concern for Boston.

“But just kind of assessing the moment, the game was a little out of reach,” Tatum added, suggesting his early exit was also precautionary as the Celtics trailed by a large margin late.

Boston will now prepare for a win-or-go-home Game 7 with renewed optimism that its franchise cornerstone will be available.

Tatum had 17 points before exiting Game 6, and his presence remains central to the Celtics’ championship aspirations. His ability to return — even if not at full strength — could tilt the series back in Boston’s favor.

Earlier concerns had surfaced after sports injury analyst Dr. Evan Jeffries outlined potential calf strain timelines ranging from day-to-day tightness to multi-week absences depending on severity.

Tatum’s comments appear to align more closely with the least severe outcome.
