Veteran Phoenix Suns swingman Dillon Brooks was elated when the Golden State Warriors defeated the LA Clippers in the play-in tournament on Wednesday. That’s because Brooks was eager to face the Warriors in the final play-in game, with a playoff spot on the line.

“I think it matters to some people like myself. I would like to see the Warriors,” Brooks said after Thursday’s practice when asked if he had a preference between facing the Warriors and the Clippers in the play-in tourney.

Why the Warriors?

“Steph and Draymond,” Brooks stressed. “And Steve Kerr.”

Dillon Brooks said he wanted the Warriors to beat the Clippers in the play-in game to set up the Suns’ Friday opponent.

When asked why, he said: “Steph and Draymond. That’s it. And Steve Kerr.”

(They have history, this season and prior)

Dillon Brooks Praises Warriors

Brooks, a former All-Defensive selection who nearly made his first All-Star team this year, proceeded to praise Stephen Curry.

“One of the best players to ever do it,” Brooks said about Curry, via AZ Central.

“It’s who you want to go against in an elimination game. He’s proven it over the years. They’ve been battle-tested in every way possible. Good matchup for us.”

The winner of the Warriors vs. Suns play-in game will face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the playoffs, while the loser will be sent home.

Brooks is ready for the high-stakes game.

“The fans are going to be ready,” Brooks said. “They’ve been waiting a couple of years for games like this. I know we’re going to be ready to play.”

Warriors Prepared for Suns

Curry, who dropped 35 points with Golden State’s season on the line on Wednesday, knows the Suns won’t be an easy opponent in Friday’s win-or-go-home game.

“Phoenix is a high-powered offense. Dillon (Brooks) and Devin (Booker) have been playing great all year long,” Curry said after the Warriors beat the Clippers.

“They have guys that can create off the dribble,” Curry said of the Suns. “Watched the game against Portland. It’s going to be a great atmosphere. We’re excited about it. I didn’t get to watch Orlando-Philly, but the play-in is delivering this year. It’s been good basketball to watch so hopefully we can add to that and get another win.”

Head coach Steve Kerr revealed that he has designed a specific game plan to overcome the Suns, whom the Warriors beat 3-1 in the regular-season series.

“Our game plan is all set,” he said looking ahead to the Suns game.

“We just have to present it to the players (Thursday). Probably (Thursday) evening. We won’t have a practice, but we’ll go through the game plan. Then shootaround Friday to walk through some things.

“We’ll be ready. One game to get in and we’re excited about it. Phoenix has a hell of a team. They’ve had a great year. It’s going to be another great game.”

The Warriors vs. Suns play-in, streaming on Prime Video, will tip off at 7 p.m. MST on Friday night. The NBA playoffs get underway a day later.
