Kawhi Leonard attacks against the Houston Rockets as a bold trade proposal linking him to Houston emerges.

The Houston Rockets are still alive — but history says they shouldn’t be.

After forcing a Game 6 without Kevin Durant, Houston now faces one of the most daunting realities in NBA history: teams that fall behind 3–0 are 0–160 all-time.

And as that pressure builds, a bold Kawhi Leonard trade proposal has already started to emerge.

That looming reality has only intensified scrutiny around the Houston Rockets and what comes next if their season ends short once again.

Within that context, a bold trade scenario from ESPN’s Andre Snellings has begun to gain traction — one that would push Houston fully into win-now mode. The concept also drew a pointed response from ESPN front office insider Bobby Marks, who underscored just how aggressive such a move would be.

ESPN Proposal: Rockets Push Chips to the Center of the Table

Snellings outlined a “go old and all-in” trade concept that would pair Durant with Kawhi Leonard, forming one of the NBA’s most accomplished star duos.

In the proposal, Houston would acquire Leonard and veteran center Brook Lopez from the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Clippers would receive Alperen Sengun, Reed Sheppard and Steven Adams, giving Los Angeles a younger, more flexible foundation.

“In this trade, the Rockets go all-in to win a championship in the short term,” Snellings wrote.

Durant-Leonard Pairing Would Create Elite Two-Way Core

The envisioned lineup would shift Houston toward a defense-first identity, which suits Ime Udoka’s coaching style while bolstering its offense, which seems to stall during the playoffs.

Durant and Leonard would start at forward, with Jabari Smith Jr. sliding to center and Amen Thompson joining Fred VanVleet in the backcourt.

Snellings noted that alignment would provide more defensive resistance than Houston’s previous configurations, while Lopez adds size, rim protection and spacing off the bench.

“And Leonard would combine with Durant to give the Rockets arguably the most potent 1-2 scoring punch in the league,” he wrote.

Bobby Marks: Rockets Would Be ‘As Win-Now as It Gets’

Marks reinforced just how aggressive such a move would be.

“Once again, postseason futility has Houston reacting to its roster shortcomings,” Marks wrote.

He added that acquiring Durant and Leonard in back-to-back blockbuster moves would be “as win-now as it gets,” pointing to their age and contract timelines.

Marks also noted the real cost of such a blockbuster pairing would include last offseason’s trade of former No. 2 pick Jalen Green and future draft capital.

Clippers Reset Around Youth Without Full Rebuild

For the Clippers, the deal would signal a shift rather than a teardown.

Sengun, 23, offers a potential All-Star centerpiece, while Sheppard, 21, provides backcourt flexibility. Snellings also highlighted a future core that could include Sengun alongside Darius Garland, with Bennedict Mathurin already on the wing.

The result would be a younger roster that remains competitive while building toward the future.

Playoff Reality Could Shape Rockets’ Next Move

For now, the proposal remains hypothetical.

But Houston’s current situation — fighting to extend a series while facing historic odds — underscores the urgency behind it.

If the Rockets ultimately fall short, the question will be whether they continue building with their young core or pivot fully into win-now mode.

Snellings’ proposal offers a clear answer to that dilemma.

And if Houston follows that path, pairing Durant with Leonard would represent one of the most aggressive bets in the league.
