At this stage of Andre Iguodala’s retirement, he’s starting to gain steam as a candidate for coaching and executive positions. The former Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers star is well-respected around the league and may be able to thrive in a leadership position with an organization.

However, it’s been made clear that Iguodala won’t be re-joining one of those teams in a different capacity for the 2026-2027 NBA season.

On Tuesday, May 12, the Sixers made a major change. The team announced that they would be parting ways with the President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey. After six seasons, the organization decided it would be best to make a change.

While many assumed that former Warriors executive Bob Myers would take over the Sixers’ top front office job if it became available, he is expected to remain in position as the President of the managing group. Myers will lead the search for a new executive, which won’t include Iguodala, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Rumblings On Andre Iguodala

“It’s far too early to name any possible favorites for the role. One item, however, that has been spelled out rather definitively: For all the recent rumblings about Myers’ affinity for former Golden State Finals MVP Andre Iguodala, I’m told Philadelphia does not plan to consider the ex-Sixer and current executive director of the NBA Players Association as a potential candidate for its new front office.”

Recently, Iguodala was linked to the Warriors’ head coaching job. As Steve Kerr’s future came into question, Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard tossed out Iguodala’s name as a potential suitor for the position. Ultimately, the Warriors managed to get Kerr back.

Over the weekend, Steve Kerr agreed to a two-year deal to return to the Warriors.

Iguodala, 42, seems to be a name to keep an eye on for future coaching and executive openings. With a positive reputation around the league that he played in since 2004, Iguodala has earned plenty of respect throughout his successful run.

In 2004, Iguodala was the ninth-overall pick out of Arizona for the Sixers. He spent eight years with the 76ers before going to the Denver Nuggets in 2012-2013. After 80 games in Denver, Iguodala fired up his first stint with the Warriors. He played six seasons with the Warriors, winning three titles at first.

After a two-year run in Miami, Iguodala was back with the Warriors for two more years to close out his NBA career. The former forward went out as a champion, collecting his fourth ring in 2022.
