The Boston Celtics did not wait until Game 5 to put a spotlight on Jayson Tatum.

One day after Tatum helped Boston move within one win of the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Celtics’ official social media account posted a graphic celebrating his rare Game 4 stat line. The message was direct: “Not just a statline, but a statement.”

The post noted that Tatum joined LeBron James as the only forwards ever to record a playoff game with at least 30 points, 10 assists and five made 3-pointers.

That is more than a social media flex for the Celtics. It came after Boston’s 128-96 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, a result that gave the Celtics a 3-1 first-round series lead and a chance to close things out in Game 5 at TD Garden. Tatum finished with 30 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds in the Game 4 victory.

For Boston, the timing matters as much as the stat line. Tatum’s performance did not just push the Celtics closer to advancing. It also showed the version of him that can make Boston difficult to solve in the postseason: scorer, passer and floor-spacer all at once.

Jayson Tatum’s Game 4 Was About More Than Scoring

Tatum scoring 30 points in a playoff game is not unusual. The Celtics have needed that from him for years.

The 11 assists are what changed the shape of Game 4.

Philadelphia entered the series with obvious defensive priorities: make Tatum work, send bodies at him when needed and force Boston’s supporting cast to win possessions. That plan becomes much harder when Tatum is punishing help defense quickly and creating clean looks for teammates.

Boston did not just beat Philadelphia from the 3-point line. The Celtics overwhelmed the 76ers there.

The Celtics made 24 3-pointers, a franchise playoff record, while shooting 45.3% from deep. Payton Pritchard hit six of them during a 32-point performance off the bench.

That is the real value of Tatum’s stat line. The Celtics do not need him to play hero ball when the offense is humming. They need him to bend the defense, make the right read and still punish single coverage when it comes.

Game 4 was a reminder that Tatum can do all three in the same night.

Celtics’ Tatum Message Sets the Tone Before Game 5

The Celtics’ wording — “Not just a statline, but a statement” — is notable because it frames Game 4 as something bigger than an individual achievement.

That is exactly how Boston should view it.

Tatum’s 30-point, 11-assist night came in a blowout road win, with the Celtics reclaiming control after Philadelphia made the series uncomfortable. It also came with Boston’s offense looking connected rather than dependent on one player carrying every possession.

That is the version of the Celtics that can close a series quickly.

There is still work to do. Philadelphia has enough top-end talent to make Game 5 tense if Boston gives away possessions or lets the 76ers hang around. But the Celtics’ public message around Tatum points to the larger truth of the series right now.

Boston’s best player did not just put up numbers in Game 4. He gave the Celtics the kind of all-around playoff performance that can travel from one round to the next.
