The Chicago Bulls could draft Jayden Quaintance

The Chicago Bulls will enter the 2026 NBA Draft armed with four picks, two in the first round and two in the second. Given the franchise’s current rebuilding status, Bryson Graham will undoubtedly look forward to putting his stamp on the team.

In a recent mock draft from Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman, the Bulls have been projected to select Jayden Quaintance with the 15th overall pick.

“The Chicago Bulls could really strengthen their defensive identity by building around Caleb Wilson and Jayden Quaintance,” Wasserman wrote. “At full strength, Quaintance looks like an outstanding defensive prospect due to his frame, length and shot-blocking rate. He was always behind offensively, but he’s delivered enough flashes of low-post touch, driving ability and shotmaking for scouts to picture some long-term scoring potential to unlock.”

There is a drawback to targeting the Kentucky standout, though. Quaintance only played four games this past season due to an ACL injury. Therefore, it will be a while before we see him back to his best.

“Quaintance lasted four games for Kentucky after trying to return 10 months after last year’s torn ACL,” Wasserman explained. “Scouts aren’t banking on seeing him again this year, which creates a tricky evaluation and draft decision for a sophomore who’s still younger than most freshmen.”

Jayden Quaintance Still Has Long-Term Upside

Despite his injury issues, Quaintance still projects to have long-term upside as a defensive stopper in the NBA. However, he will need to prove that his injury issues are behind him before a team fully buys into the ceiling he was flashing pre-injury.

“The long-term ceiling that looked so appealing at Arizona State hasn’t changed,” Wasserman continued. “But with questions around his availability, health and current stage of development, it’s becoming more likely that he could lose support from certain teams desperate for a sure thing.”

Fortunately, there’s already some proof of concept for Quaintance’s game. He spent the 2024-25 season with Arizona State in the Big 12. During that season, he played 24 games, averaging 9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Furthermore, his defensive upside was on full display, leading Kentucky to show interest in him.

The Bulls Have A Golden Opportunity

Regardless of who they select in the upcoming draft, Chicago has a golden opportunity to add long-term upside to the roster. The Bulls are in a good place right now, in terms of young and exciting talent.

Nevertheless, who Graham selects as the team’s next head coach will be just as important as who they select on draft night. Chicago needs someone who is a proven commodity when it comes to developing talent. Furthermore, it will need someone who can implement a system and culture to enable the franchise to build for the long term.

With so much young talent and more to come on draft night, there are plenty of reasons to feel excited about this Bulls franchise. Nevertheless, there will be pressure to get things right by selecting the correct players in areas of need. After all, ensuring playing time is available is key to development.

Chicago is entering a new era, and this current youth movement could define how we view it when looking back years from now.
