Mike Brown speaks after a Knicks game as rotation decisions raise questions about a fan favorite guard.

The New York Knicks are down 2-1 to the Atlanta Hawks, and while the players are catching heat, head coach Mike Brown is not getting a free pass either.

After another painful postseason defeat, Brown stepped up to the microphone and delivered a response that set Knicks Twitter on fire, and not in a good way.

Knicks’ Mike Brown Drops a Questionable Comparison

With the Knicks facing a must-win situation going into Game 4, Brown tried to calm the nerves of a panicking fanbase by drawing inspiration from last year’s Oklahoma City Thunder.

He told reporters, “I told them this: It’s a 7-game series for a reason. Stuff’s gonna happen. Plenty of teams have been down 1-2. Sh*t, I even think OKC was down 1-2 last year and they ended up winning it — I’m not saying we’re gonna win it or anything like that…”

Though​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ the comment intended to motivate, it sounded more like a coach making excuses beforehand. The supporters were quick to spot that the comparison of Knicks to a young and hungry OKC team that had been dominating the league all season was quite far-fetched, as it was actually the Hawks, a team New York was expected to easily beat, that made the ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌difference.

Fans Roast Brown Without Mercy

The internet did not let the quote slide. Knicks fans flooded the replies with frustration, sarcasm, and some serious calls for change.

One fan fired back bluntly, writing: “Michael Brown like look on the bright side. Bad coaches like him always have excuses!”

Another fan kept it short and brutal, simply posting: “MIKE BROWN THE CLOWN.”

One supporter aimed directly at team owner James Dolan, commenting: “Have some balls, Dolan. Be the first to fire Mike Brown’s staff during the playoffs. Malone is waiting!”

A fed-up fan connected the coaching situation to the broader Leon Rose era, writing: “Mike Brown already backpedaling for the exit — absolute clown hiring and final nail in the coffin for the Leon era.”

One user took a sarcastic jab, sarcastically quoting the coach: “‘We are not a championship team, but I think we can still beat the Hawks.’ – Mike Brown.”

Another fan noted what many were already thinking: “Coach Brown is not even confident while saying this.”

One commenter was direct and demanded change: “Mike Brown is a Moron and not a good HC. He needs to go…”

A sharp fan called out the obvious flaw in Brown’s OKC comparison: “Why is Mike Brown comparing himself to OKC when they were down 2-1 to the team the Knicks can’t even BEAT…”

One fan delivered perhaps the most creative insult of the night, writing: “Doo Doo Brown.”

And finally, one supporter summed up the general feeling about both the coach and the star player: “Mike Brown like Bridges seem like great dudes but they’re both gone next year if they can’t beat ATL.”

With Game 4 now a must-win for New York’s playoff survival, Mike Brown will need to deliver far more than historical comparisons and hopeful speeches.
