Despite being one of the most prominent players of his generation, Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden remains ringless through 16 seasons.

Currently in the midst of year 17, Harden’s Cavaliers are down 0-2 against the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

While the Cavaliers are struggling as a whole, Harden’s issues have been at the top of the list of the Cavaliers’ issues since the first-round series, which nearly concluded with an upset loss against the Toronto Raptors.

As the NBA world watches Cleveland begin to crumble, Harden’s chances of securing his first ring this season is dipping to dangerous levels. In the eyes of the 17-year NBA veteran, Lou Williams, this version of Harden is unlikely to make a championship push.

Lou Williams Delivers Harsh James Harden Reality

Cleveland Cavaliers star James Harden drew some wild reactions after he had a bad game against the Detroit Pistons.

“It’s not looking good. As great as a player he is, he should have one,” Williams said of Harden on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back.

“But at 36 years old, 17 NBA seasons, and not having a great postseason? The clock doesn’t go backward. It looks like he’s running out of time. I said it on the show the other day, and I got some funny looks when I said it. I just don’t think his game has evolved in the past five years to another level. Usually, when you get up in age and you get to the latter parts of your career, you add something, or you slow something down. You catch the ball or you catch the ball closer to the rim. You try to change up what people have seen and what they got a steady diet of.”

Williams believes that Harden is still trying to play the same game he did when he was at the peak of his success. The star guard was a high-volume three-point shooter, but had a knack for blowing past defenders and either finishing strong or drawing a foul.

Harden is often seen trying to sell fouls, and a lot of the time, defenders aren’t biting.

Through nine playoff games, Harden is shooting 42.3% from the field and 32.2% from three. He is putting up averages of 19.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists. In addition, Harden is turning the ball over above his average, with 5.2 turnovers per game.

“This is probably the version of James Harden we’re going to see until the end of time—until his career is over—if this is the brand of basketball he’s going to play, and he’s going to get more turnovers than field goal makes, it looks like he’s not going to get a ring.”

The Cavaliers have a chance to get a win on the board in Game 3 on Saturday at home. If they can’t, the Cavs will go down 0-3 to begin the series.
