Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum

Celtics' star Jaylen Brown had a hilarious reaction to Jayson Tatum's new hairstyle

The Boston Celtics had every reason to believe Tuesday night was the night. TD Garden was packed, the series was 3-1, and the Philadelphia 76ers were staring down elimination. Boston controlled the third quarter, pushed the lead to 13, and the finish line was right there.

Then it slipped away.

Philadelphia outscored the Celtics 63-40 in the second half. Boston’s offense produced just 11 points in the fourth quarter on 3 of 22 shooting, and a team that had been one quarter away from the second round suddenly has to go back to Philadelphia for a Game 6.

After the game, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Payton Pritchard faced the microphones. What they said was worth hearing.

Brown Holds Nothing Back

Jaylen Brown did not look for excuses after the loss. His night had been productive. 22 points while converting 9 of his 23 field goal attempts, but he was scoreless in the fourth quarter when it mattered most, and he knew it.

“It just wasn’t good enough from us, it wasn’t good enough on my behalf,” Brown said. “We just got to be better.”

Brown did not deflect. He did not point to officiating or shot variance. He placed the responsibility exactly where he felt it belonged, starting with himself. That is the standard a team with championship aspirations has to hold itself to.

He was equally direct when asked about heading back to Philadelphia for Game 6.

“Tonight I feel like they shot the ball better than us, which doesn’t happen a lot,” Brown said. “But they shot the ball from three better than us. We just gotta respond. It’s the playoffs.”

Tatum on What Went Wrong for the Celtics

Tatum put up 24 points and pulled down 16 rebounds and was the Celtics’ most productive player on the night. But he struggled in the fourth quarter, caught in the same offensive drought that swallowed the entire team.

When asked what happened in the final seven minutes, Tatum was measured.

“First of all, give them credit, they played well,” Tatum said. “Few looks that we got that we felt good about that we just didn’t make. Sometimes that happens.”

Tatum acknowledged the 76ers earned the win, acknowledged that shots Boston expected to fall simply did not, and moved on. He also addressed Joel Embiid‘s performance directly.

“Give him credit, he played well. He put a lot of pressure on us especially on the defensive end. We’ll go back and watch the film and make some adjustments and be ready for game six.”

Pritchard Provides the Perspective

Payton Pritchard was the one of the best players on the floor in Game 4 alongside Tatum, delivering a 32-point career playoff performance that gave Boston a commanding series lead. Tuesday was a different night. But his message after the loss carried the kind of clarity that matters in a tight series.

“I mean, it’s disappointing,” Pritchard said. “Every game you lose in the playoffs is disappointing. But the playoffs, every series is a life of its own. You never know when you’re gonna get it done. So you gotta move on and get ready for Thursday.”

Pritchard did not minimize the loss or pretend it did not sting. He acknowledged the disappointment directly, then pivoted to what comes next with genuine conviction. That is the mindset of a team that still believes it controls its own destiny.

And it does. Boston still leads this series 3-2. Road teams are 4-1 in this series. The Celtics have already won in Philadelphia twice. They know how to do it.

Final Word for the Celtics

Three different voices, one consistent message. Accountability, not excuses. Disappointment, not panic. Focus on Thursday, not Tuesday.

Boston had a chance to put this series to bed and could not finish it. Embiid was the best player on the floor and Boston has real adjustments to make before Game 6. Those facts are true and the players acknowledged them directly.

The series lead belongs to Boston. Game 6 is Thursday.

Get it done in Philadelphia.
