Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis (3) reacts.

Anthony Davis moved away from the LA Lakers last February 2025, but his heart remains in Los Angeles.

During an interview in Davis’ new show Foul Play, Davis, who is now a player of the Washington Wizards, opened up about the bond he had with the Lakers squad, before naming the one he misses most from the team.

“Out of everybody on the team, I really miss Austin Reaves. That was my guy,” Davis said.

Davis was on his way to prank his former Lakers teammate Reaves on the show when he made such a declaration. The episode is titled “Hero to Zero”, which he also pranked former NFL defensive lineman Gerald McCoy.

Davis was traded away from the Lakers as part of the blockbuster Luka Doncic deal. Davis found himself with the Dallas Mavericks after the trade, following six seasons with the Lakers, which saw him win one NBA championship.

His time with the Mavericks was short-lived as he struggled with numerous injuries before being traded once more to the Wizards, where he is set to play alongside All-Star guard Trae Young and the No. 1 pick of this year’s NBA Draft.

Meanwhile, Reaves is still with the Lakers and has emerged as the team’s second-best scorer this season behind Luka Doncic. They lost in the second round via sweep against the Oklahoma City Thunder

What Austin Reaves Felt After Anthony Davis Left LA Lakers

Austin Reaves was one of the guys who took the Anthony Davis trade the hardest. According to him, it took a while before he got used to being without Davis on the team.

“Everybody in the world thought it was fake. So, it’s been a tough couple of days,” he said of the Davis-Doncic trade in an interview last February 2025.

“Forgetting all the basketball stuff, being around AD [Anthony Davis] three years, four years. Been around Max [Christie] for three, you create real relationships with these guys. That’s been the toughest part for me.”

Reaves understood that it was all business after all, and they are professionals.

“After a couple games here recently, we would be on the bus and AD would bring his phone up to me and it would be his kid,” he said. “He would be telling AD ‘I want to talk to Austin Reaves’, and I would also tell him to do the celebration, and he would start doing it. It’s just little things like that are why it’s tough, but it’s a business. You got to get past that and look forward to what I got now.”

“I feel like, for like, I have just like, an empty pit in my stomach just because we’ve, like I said, the last four years with AD, three years of Max [Christie], a couple years with [Jalen] Hood[-Schifino], like I said, you create real relationships and bonds. And out of nowhere, it’s just on a different team competing to do what they want to do.”

Anthony Davis Set For Promising Season

The Lakers’ stuff is all behind Anthony Davis now as he looks to compete meaningfully next year with the Washington Wizards.

Davis would benefit from playing alongside Trae Young, and the top pick in this year’s draft, which could be highly-touted prospect AJ Dybantsa.

Davis is seen to be one of the final pieces in the Wizards’ rebuilding puzzle as they target a playoff seed next season.
