LeBron James on playing with Bronny James in playoffs

The Los Angeles Lakers opened their first-round playoff series with a 107-98 win over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night, overcoming multiple injuries and taking an early 1-0 lead. Los Angeles played without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, while Houston was missing Kevin Durant because of a right knee contusion.

LeBron James again carried a major workload in his 19th NBA postseason appearance. The 41-year-old finished with 19 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds, helping guide a short-handed Lakers team through a physical Game 1.

The night also delivered a historic personal moment for James. During the second quarter, Bronny James checked into the game, making the Lakers stars the first father-son duo to share the floor in an NBA playoff game.

Afterward, LeBron spoke openly about what the experience meant to him and why it stood out even among the many milestones of his career.

LeBron said sharing the court with Bronny in a playoff setting was unlike anything else he has experienced in basketball.

“I was on the floor with my son, like in the playoff game,” James said in his postgame interview.

“That’s probably the craziest thing that’s ever happened to me in my career.”

James added that the moment carried even more meaning because several family members were in attendance.

“It was just so cool to be out there with him and his brother and sister and his mom in the building and his grandma,” he said. “That’s just insane.”

He continued by reflecting on the family significance of the night.

“My mom get to watch her son and her grandson during the playoffs. That’s crazy.”

For a player whose resume includes championships, MVP awards, and the NBA’s all-time scoring record, the comments showed how much the family moment stood apart from traditional accomplishments.

Bronny played four minutes in the second quarter. While he did not score, he provided the Lakers with defensive energy in his first meaningful postseason action.

The appearance created another milestone in a career that has already redefined longevity for LeBron, now in his 23rd NBA season.

While the father-son moment drew attention after the game, LeBron’s on-court production remained central to the Lakers’ win.

He controlled the tempo throughout the night, finishing with 19 points, 13 assists, and eight rebounds in 38 minutes.

Luke Kennard provided the biggest scoring boost for Los Angeles, posting a career playoff-high 27 points. He hit four three-pointers and gave the Lakers key perimeter offense with Doncic and Reaves unavailable.

Deandre Ayton added 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Marcus Smart scored 15 points with eight assists. Rui Hachimura chipped in 14 points.

Los Angeles shot 60.6% from the field and held Houston to 37.6% shooting. That efficiency helped offset a rebounding disadvantage and 21 offensive boards allowed to the Rockets.

Houston got 19 points from Alperen Sengun, while Jabari Smith Jr. had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Amen Thompson added 17 points.

The Rockets were without Durant after he suffered a knee contusion during practice earlier in the week. His status for the remainder of the series remains uncertain.

For the Lakers, the Game 1 result was important beyond the standings. Entering the playoffs without Doncic and Reaves created major questions about their offensive depth and ability to generate enough scoring.

Instead, they received balanced contributions and another composed postseason performance from James.

Now leading the series 1-0, Los Angeles returns to the floor Tuesday night for Game 2.

But Saturday’s win also gave LeBron something more personal than a playoff lead.

In a career full of records and championships, he said, standing beside Bronny in a postseason game may have been the most memorable moment of all.
