Following a disappointing conclusion to the 2026 NBA Playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers have decided to move on from their President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey.

On Tuesday, May 12, the Sixers officially announced the decision. The team’s Managing Partner, Josh Harris, released a statement after the move was official.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Daryl personally and professionally, and I’m grateful for his contributions over the last six seasons,” Harris said in a press release.  “After speaking with Daryl, we determined that it was time for a fresh start.”

There were some positive moments during the Daryl Morey era in Philadelphia. Ultimately, though, the Sixers have come up short.

When Morey joined the organization, the Sixers were having a difficult time getting past the second round. With Morey’s experience with the Houston Rockets, the 76ers hoped that he could oversee the front office that was led by Elton Brand, helping them put together a roster that was ready to make an NBA Finals push.

The 76ers made the playoffs in five out of six years, but never made it past the second round. In two out of the last three seasons, the 76ers made the playoffs through the NBA Play-In Tournament. In the other year, they missed the postseason entirely.

“Bob Myers will lead the process of identifying a new leader and I believe his experience in constructing four NBA championship teams will be a valuable resource to our organization,” Josh Harris announced.

“To our fans, your frustration and disappointment are understandable and warranted. We have fallen well short of our own expectations and failed to deliver in the way this city deserves. That bothers me deeply and I have confidence in Bob to establish a path forward for our franchise.”

Bob Myers, the former Golden State Warriors front office leader, will run the search for a new President of Basketball Operations. Myers has won the NBA’s Executive of the Year award twice and constructed rosters that churned out four different championships.
