Headlines surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers continue to center on Luka Doncic and the possibility of his return.

That attention comes as the Lakers prepare for a second-round playoff matchup against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.

At the same time, focus is beginning to shift toward what could be a pivotal offseason, with teams already exiting the playoffs and speculation building around potential roster moves.

Lakers Positioned to Be Aggressive in Offseason Market

Unlike at the trade deadline, the Lakers are expected to enter the summer with multiple first-round draft picks and significant cap space, putting them in a strong position to pursue meaningful upgrades.

The Denver Nuggets’ first-round exit to the Minnesota Timberwolves could also create ripple effects across the market, potentially opening the door for Los Angeles to target key players.

ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel has reported that Aaron Gordon, Cam Johnson, and Peyton Watson could all emerge as options for general manager Rob Pelinka and the front office.

However, Lake Show Life’s Tyler Watts believes the Lakers should revisit a familiar name in Bruce Brown, who is set to hit unrestricted free agency this summer.

“The Los Angeles Lakers have a real shot to finally sign Bruce Brown this summer after the Nuggets’ shocking first-round playoff exit,” Watts wrote. “Brown is a stout defender who can fill several different roles. Need some playmaking, the 29-year-old can offer it.”

“He can also sink an open shot, defend multiple positions, and get some easy buckets off cuts. Brown is a high-IQ player who would fit nicely in LA. Now, it’s finally time for the Lakers to make it a reality.”

Brown appeared in all 82 games this season, averaging 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.0 steal, while shooting 47.5% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range.

Bruce Brown Emerges as Potential Value Addition

The 6-foot-4 guard/forward won a championship with Denver in 2023 before signing a two-year, $45 million deal with the Indiana Pacers, where he had also been linked to the Lakers at the time.

Since then, he has moved between teams, with stints at the Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans before returning to the Nuggets last offseason on a one-year, $3 million deal.

Now set to enter free agency again, Brown could present a realistic and affordable opportunity for Los Angeles to finally secure his services.

With Doncic and Austin Reaves both missing time, head coach JJ Redick has leaned heavily on LeBron James, Marcus Smart, and Luke Kennard as primary ball-handlers, while also giving Bronny James minutes in the rotation.

“Brown could offer similar out-of-position ball-handling and shot creation,” Watts added. “This feels like the perfect fit, especially if Los Angeles can sign him at or near the minimum.”

Looking ahead, the Lakers are expected to have notable financial flexibility, with several contracts coming off the books, including LeBron James’ $52.6 million salary, which could create upward of $50 million in cap space.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the organization is unlikely to chase another marquee star outside of James, who could still return on a more team-friendly contract.

Instead, the front office is expected to focus on retaining key contributors such as Reaves, Kennard, and backup center Jaxson Hayes, while targeting cost-effective additions to round out the roster.

Within that framework, Brown fits the profile of a versatile, team-first contributor who could provide immediate value if the right deal becomes available.
