It might be time for the Golden State Warriors to fire up a search for a new head coach. Steve Kerr’s contract is expiring, and all signs are beginning to point to the four-time NBA Champion coach moving on.

Similar to all coaching vacancies, the Warriors are getting linked to candidates from all over. Current NBA head coaches and assistants, college coaches, and even available candidates with and without experience.

This week, one name popped up who know Warriors fans know well: Andre Iguodala.

Could Andre Iguodala Be A Steve Kerr Replacement Candidate?

With the Warriors still waiting to hear from Kerr regarding his plans, there isn’t an official list of candidates lining up to interview for the team.

Everything is currently speculation, and Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard kicked around a handful of names, taking a big swing on Iguodala.

“Other names, some more realistic than others: Current defensive coordinator Jerry Stackhouse, current offensive coordinator Terry Stotts, Boston assistant Sam Cassel, TV analyst Brent Barry, and my outside-the-envelope candidate … Andre Iguodala.”

These days, it’s not that far-fetched. After all, look at the Los Angeles Lakers.

Just a few seasons ago, the Lakers hired a first-timer to coach a roster that was headlined by the legendary LeBron James in JJ Redick.

The former NBA sharpshooter finished his playing career in 2021. Three years later, Redick was running the Lake Show from the sidelines and is currently in the midst of his second playoff run with the team.

Iguodala, 42, wrapped up his playing career in 2023. He finished with a second stint on the Warriors, being a part of their fourth championship run under Steve Kerr.

Similar to Redick, Iguodala avoided a post-playing coaching career off the bat. However, he has stayed close to the game, stepping into analyst roles.

Iguodala finished his playing career with 1,231 regular season games under his belt. He averaged 11.3 points, 4.2 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. He started his career with the Philadelphia 76ers, and had runs with the Denver Nuggets, Warriors, and the Miami Heat.

The Warriors Are Nearing A Reset

Most will probably assume the Warriors will give some seasoned vets a look before they take the first-timer route.

With Steph Curry still around, Draymond Green potentially returning, and Jimmy Butler under contract, the Warriors plan to compete for a title in 2026-2027. In their eyes, the window is still open slightly.

Still, that shouldn’t sway them away from finding their voice of the future if they are out there. If that’s Iguodala–a well-respected vocal veteran leader with plenty of experience in Golden State–then the idea really isn’t that unrealistic.

Kerr has been with the Warriors since 2014. Iguodala worked directly with him for most of that stint. It’s worth keeping an eye on the four-time NBA Champion.
