Back in March, former Disney actress Madison Pettis claimed that her ex-boyfriend and current Brooklyn Nets star Michael Porter Jr. was a “psychopath.”

Speaking on Owen Thiele’s In Your Dreams podcast, Pettis was asked if she was willing to be a basketball wife. She then shared her experience dating a player who became an NBA star.

“My ex is now in the NBA,” Pettis said. “He wasn’t when we dated. He was like in high school and college. I broke up with him before he was in the league because he was a psychopath. I do think a lot of athletes are not great partners, but I wouldn’t like rule it out because I do like love what they do.”

While Pettis didn’t mention Porter by name, they went public about their relationship in 2017, as per USA Today.

Nearly two months after Madison Pettis’ remarks about Michael Porter Jr., the Brooklyn Nets star finally responded to her ex-girlfriend.

In an appearance on the One Night with Steiny podcast with Aaron Steinberg and Celina Powell, MPJ address the comments made by Pettis.

“That was crazy,” Porter said, via New York Post. “I wasn’t feeling that at all because, bro. We dated for what, three months, and nothing happened crazy. I don’t know why 10 years later she’s getting on a podcast talking about, ‘He’s a psychopath.’ She’s scaring all the jawns away.”

The one-time NBA champion added, “But come on, bro. 10 years later? I’m 16 or 17. I don’t even think I lost my virginity yet, dawg. Not till college.”

Porter was a high school standout for Nathan Hale in Seattle when he began dating Pettis, who was living in Los Angeles as an actress at the time. He then went on to play for Missouri before getting drafted 14th overall in 2018 by the Denver Nuggets.

Michael Porter Jr. Calls Out Nuggets After Early Playoff Exit

After seven years with the Denver Nuggets, Michael Porter Jr. was traded to the Brooklyn Nets last offseason in exchange for Cameron Johnson. It was a money-saving move by the Nuggets that allowed them to bring in several free agents like Bruce Brown Jr. and Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Nuggets finished third in the West, but they were ousted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2026 NBA playoffs.

Speaking on N3On’s stream over the weekend, MPJ seemingly called out the Nuggets for trading him to the Nets.

“Yes, shouldn’t have traded me, man,” Porter said.

Regardless of what happened in Denver, Porter had a career year in Brooklyn. He averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals.

The Nets weren’t successful as a team, but they have the youngest roster in the league. They also have plenty of cap space this offseason to possibly improve their roster.
