Ayo Dosunmu reacts after a playoff game as the Minnesota Timberwolves add him to the injury report ahead of Game 6 against the Denver Nuggets.
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ injury situation continues to spiral at the worst possible time.
After listing Bones Hyland as questionable with left knee soreness ahead of Game 6, Minnesota added another key name to its injury report: Ayo Dosunmu, who is dealing with right calf soreness.
The development further depletes a backcourt already without Anthony Edwards (knee) and Donte DiVincenzo (Achilles), leaving the Timberwolves facing a mounting availability crisis entering Thursday’s pivotal matchup with the Denver Nuggets.
Dosunmu’s status carries significant weight given his recent production.
Over his last five games, the 25-year-old guard has averaged 21.8 points, 4.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds while shooting an efficient 60.9% from the field and 54.5% from 3-point range.
He followed a historic Game 4 performance — scoring 43 points off the bench — by starting Game 5 and logging 38 minutes. Dosunmu finished with 18 points, four assists and three rebounds in Minnesota’s 125-113 loss, though Denver’s defensive adjustments limited his overall impact.
With his health now in question, Minnesota could be forced to adjust yet again.
The Timberwolves’ guard rotation has been hit hard.
Edwards remains sidelined with a hyperextended knee, while DiVincenzo has already undergone surgery for a ruptured Achilles. Hyland’s questionable status only adds to the uncertainty.
That has elevated Dosunmu from complementary piece to primary offensive option — a role he has handled effectively for much of the series.
If he is limited or unavailable, Minnesota would likely lean even more heavily on veterans such as Mike Conley and Kyle Anderson, along with younger contributors like Terrence Shannon Jr., to stabilize the offense.
Meanwhile, Denver has found its rhythm at the right time.
Nikola Jokić delivered a dominant triple-double in Game 5, finishing with 27 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds — his 23rd career playoff triple-double.
Jamal Murray added 24 points as the Nuggets rediscovered their offensive identity after being held under 100 points twice earlier in the series.
The victory cut Minnesota’s series lead to 3-2 and shifted momentum back toward Denver.
Game 6 now represents a turning point.
Minnesota remains one win away from advancing but enters with a shrinking margin for error. The Timberwolves committed 25 turnovers in Game 5 and struggled to maintain offensive consistency amid their depleted lineup.
Dosunmu’s availability could be a deciding factor.
His ability to score efficiently and create offense has helped offset the absence of Edwards and DiVincenzo. Without him, Minnesota’s scoring ceiling drops significantly.
Despite the growing injury list, the Timberwolves still control the series.
A win at home would eliminate Denver and send Minnesota to the next round. A loss would force a Game 7, giving the Nuggets a chance to complete a rare comeback from a 3-1 deficit.
For Minnesota, the challenge is no longer just execution.
It’s about whether enough of their core contributors can take the floor.
And with Dosunmu now joining an already crowded injury report, that question has become the defining storyline heading into Game 6.
