PORTLAND, OREGON - OCTOBER 22: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves reacts during the second half against the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center on October 22, 2025 in Portland, Oregon.

The Timberwolves were hit with a brutal scare in Game 4 against Denver when Anthony Edwards went down with a left knee injury and needed help getting to the locker room.

Edwards landed awkwardly while trying to block a shot, was visibly in pain, and put only minimal weight on the leg.

Minnesota also lost Donte DiVincenzo to a separate non-contact lower right leg injury in the same game, turning one night into a real nightmare for the Wolves.

As Dusty Garza pointed out, the scary part with a left-knee hyperextension is how wide the range can be. It can be something minor, but it can also turn into bone-bruise pain or, in the worst case, ligament damage that changes everything.

The Anthony Edwards Injury is potentially a nightmare scenario for the Timberwolves.

The graphic left knee hyperextension + visible agony as he was helped to locker usually points to three outcomes:

Best case: minor sprain (1–7 days)

Realistic: bone bruise (2–4 weeks)

That is why the season-ending fear is already loud. We have seen this kind of panic before. Giannis Antetokounmpo recently dealt with a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise, while Paul George’s hyperextended left knee later led to more missed time after further testing.

Anthony Edwards’ 2025–26 Season

The game itself only made the worry worse. Edwards was already carrying Minnesota through the series, and he came into Game 4 averaging 28.8 points per game in the regular season and 23 points through the first three playoff games.

Before leaving, he had five points and three rebounds in 18 minutes. Minnesota also entered the night with a 2-1 series lead, so losing its top star in the middle of a playoff run is a huge blow.

How the Timberwolves Can Survive

Minnesota’s depth will be severely tested without Ant. Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert must step up as the primary options. Ayo Dosunmu will likely take on a bigger backcourt role with DiVincenzo also potentially sidelined.

The Wolves went 6-4 without Edwards during the regular season, but most of those wins came against losing teams. Beating Denver in the playoffs is a whole different challenge, but Gobert anchoring the defense gives Minnesota at least a fighting chance to stay alive.

Timberwolves Got One More Bad News

The Timberwolves’ nightmare got even worse. Just 79 seconds into Game 4, Donte DiVincenzo went down clutching his right Achilles tendon, and sources confirmed to ESPN that: “Minnesota’s Donte DiVincenzo has been diagnosed with a torn right Achilles tendon, sources tell ESPN. His season is over with a lengthy recovery. Devastating blow for the Timberwolves starting guard.” as per Shams Charania.

Minnesota’s Donte DiVincenzo has been diagnosed with a torn right Achilles tendon, sources tell ESPN. His season is over with a lengthy recovery. Devastating blow for the Timberwolves starting guard.

DiVincenzo had been one of Minnesota’s most reliable contributors all year, playing all 82 regular-season games and averaging 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
