As the Denver Nuggets prepared for a battle against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards was the only player on the injury report for Minnesota.

Considering Edwards’ designation was “injury maintenance” for his knee, the description didn’t seem severe enough to place the Timberwolves in danger of actually missing their star guard for Game 1.

Edwards went through every practice session this week and his pregame warmup without any setbacks. As a result, the Timberwolves upgraded the star guard to available for the matchup.

With Edwards facing plenty of absences down the stretch of the season and getting an additional week off from games due to the NBA Play-In Tournament, the star guard had a lot to overcome in his return. He was tired, as expected. But as far as the knee’s concern, Edwards seems to be in the clear.

“Nah [I wasn’t limited] I feel good,” Edwards told reporters on Saturday night after Game 1. “A little fatigued—I haven’t played in like a month—a little fatigued, but that was expected, and I feel good.”

Edwards checked into the first game for 38 minutes of action. He took 19 shots from the field, with nine of them coming from beyond the arc. Edwards made seven shots from the field. He finished the game with 22 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

“[The fatigue] didn’t affect my shot,” Edwards added. “It just didn’t fall.”

Although the Timberwolves got off to a hot start on the road in Denver, Colorado, the Nuggets punched back.

Once they did, it was hard for Edwards and the Timberwolves to climb back in. By the end of the night, the Nuggets took Game 1 with a 116-105 win. Edwards remained in a positive mood after the game and didn’t seem to be bothered by his knee.

Since March 17, Edwards appeared in just three out of the final 14 games of the year. He showed clear signs of rust in his first game back since a 27-minute showing against the Houston Rockets on April 10. Edwards and the Timberwolves will be back on the court for Game 2 on Monday, April 20. The series goes to Minnesota for Game 3 on Thursday, April 23.
