Usually, when a team beats another team in a seven-game series, it means that the winning team is inherently better. Not always, obviously. There are certainly exceptions, but most of the time, that holds true.

It’s not too often that you hear the star player on the losing team acknowledge that the other team was simply better, though. But, that’s exactly what Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards did after the Wolves were bested by the San Antonio Spurs in six games in the Western Conference semifinals.

Anthony Edwards Says Spurs Are Just Better Than Timberwolves

After Minnesota’s series-ending loss in Game 6, Edwards acknowledged San Antonio’s superiority at this point in time.

“I just tip my hat to them. They’re just the better team,” Edwards said. “I mean, at that point, you ain’t going back in, so you’re just trying to give them their respect.”

So, what went wrong for the Timberwolves? According to Edwards, the team failed to build the necessary habits for postseason success during the regular season and it came back to bite them.

“I feel like you’re supposed to build championship habits or playoff habits in a regular season,” Edwards said. “No, we didn’t build the habits during the regular season.”

Despite the underwhelming outcome of Minnesota’s season, Edwards doesn’t think that the team necessarily needs to add a co-star alongside him.

“I feel like we’re good,” he said.

Timberwolves Have Several Key Contributors Headed for Unrestricted Free Agency

Mike Conley

Minnesota’s roster is likely to look different next season, one way or another. The Wolves have players headed for unrestricted free agency, and it remains to be seen how many of those guys they’ll bring back.

The Timberwolves’ group of UFAs includes Mike Conley, Joe Ingles, Kyle Anderson, Ayo Dosunmu and Bones Hyland.

When it comes to Conley, specifically, there was some speculation that the veteran guard might look to retire after 19 seasons in the league. However, he shot down such speculation and made it clear that he plans to continue his career.

“I am going to do a lot of thinking, a lot of reflecting. What’s important for our family… I think I might’ve proved to myself that I can keep playing a little longer,” Conley said. “Who knows what that looks like, but definitely it’s going to happen.”

Now the question for Conley will be if his career will continue in Minnesota, or elsewhere.
