It seems like Terrell Owens is still not on good terms with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys
Over the past few months, Dallas Cowboys owner and de facto general manager Jerry Jones has received his fair share of criticism, and it’s not too hard to see why. Jones effectively tanked the Cowboys’ 2025 campaign when he inexplicably traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers right before Week 1, and ever since losing him, he’s been scrambling to pick up the pieces and rebuild his defense.
While Dallas has done some solid work this offseason, Jones isn’t exactly the most popular person in the state of Texas right now. One guy who has had beef with Jones for several years now is Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens, and he recently took aim at his former employer when asked about the state of the Cowboys.
Owens spent three years of his 15-year career with the Cowboys, and he proved that he was still one of the top pass catchers in the league during his stint with the team, even in his mid-30s. Owens racked up at least 1,050 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in each of his three seasons with the team, and he also earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro First Team honors in 2007.
Even with all that success, Owens’ time with the Cowboys came to an abrupt ending, as he was released in the wake of the 2008 campaign. This seems to be the primary issue Owens has with Jones, as he claims that Dallas’ longtime owner reassured him that he would not be released, only to turn around and go back on his word.
While Owens has remained involved with several of his other former teams, such as the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles, he has shown no interest in keeping up with the Cowboys. When asked about Jones in a recent interview, it’s clear Owens is still quite upset with him, as he took several brutal shots at Jones.
“I couldn’t care less about Jerry and what he’s doing,” Owens said in an interview with Action Network. “I don’t concern myself with the Cowboys. The Cowboys haven’t concerned themselves with me since I left there. That’s speaking of Jerry Jones or anybody really from that organization … The way things ended there with the Cowboys, I couldn’t care less. I have nothing to say about them.”

Jones is known for being ruthless with his handling of players, and one of the first such examples was his decision to release Owens. In recent memory, we have seen Jones botch contract negotiations with guys like Parsons, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and Dak Prescott. While he signed the latter two to new deals, he cost himself and his team millions of dollars by slow-playing the negotiations.
Now, Jones finds himself in another unique situation with wide receiver George Pickens. After franchise tagging Pickens, it seemed like Dallas would try to sign him to a long-term deal, but the Cowboys have said they won’t be offering him a new contract this offseason. It’s another drama-filled situation for Jones, and it appears to be one that Owens will not be paying any attention to.
