New England Patriots star cornerback Christian Gonzalez did not hide his true feelings about his former teammate.

Stefon Diggs was released by the team in March, but has yet to be signed by another team. A large part of that was due to his off-field matters, as Diggs went to trial after being accused of assault by his former personal chef. However, the receiver was found not guilty on May 5, and wasted no time sending a message to the league.

“This is not an opinion-based sport, so here are the numbers. I played 52% of the snaps and finished with 85 catches for 1,045 yards coming off an ACL,’ Diggs captioned the post, with the video including numerous of his top plays from last season. “Where we going? 🫢🫱🏾”

And many of his Patriots’ teammates responded, including Gonzalez, who answered Diggs’ question.

“To the pats,” the cornerback simply said.

Patriots linebacker Bradyn Swinson shared a similar sentiment.

“Bring yo ass back,” he commented.

Why The Patriots Released Stefon Diggs

The Patriots’ decision to release Diggs certainly wasn’t because of the way he played during the 2025 season. The receiver signed a three-year, $60 million deal in March, but the way it was set up gave the team an easy out after the first year. But he truly proved himself, coming off an ACL tear, having finished the season with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. He added an additional 14 receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown in the postseason.

So, what it came down to is money.

Diggs had a large cap hit this season, totally $26.5 million. And since he was 32 years old, as well as needing to address other areas of concern on the roster, the Patriots weren’t willing to take that on. However, if he’s willing to come back on a smaller deal, it’s clear that his teammates would welcome him back with open arms.

Stefon Diggs Could Still Face Discipline From The League

While Diggs received a not guilty verdict, the situation is not completely in the past just yet.

According to the Associated Press, Diggs could still face discipline from the league.

“We have been monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review of the personal conduct policy,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Tuesday.

Diggs has maintained his innocence since the allegations were first made public.

“We have taken these allegations seriously from day one and that’s exactly why we were eager for the facts to come to light through the legal process,” Mitch Schuster of Meister, Seelig & Schuster said in a statement (per ESPN). “… Professional athletes have a target on their back. When someone sees a uniform and a contract, they see leverage; they see a settlement. And they’re counting on that pressure in the court of public opinion to drive a default decision to settle regardless of the facts of the matter.

“The evidence has shown what we’ve maintained from day one: Mr. Diggs was wrongly accused, and this case represents exactly the kind of opportunistic targeting that players can face the moment they step off the field.”
