The Cleveland Browns have no plans at this time to trade Dillon Gabriel.

The Cleveland Browns added a fourth quarterback to their roster on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft, but general manager Andrew Berry made clear Saturday that the move does not signal any imminent changes to the unit — including for second-year signal-caller Dillon Gabriel.

Cleveland selected Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green with the No. 182 overall pick, giving the team four quarterbacks on the depth chart alongside Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson.

Speculation had been mounting that adding a quarterback would put Gabriel — selected in the third round last season — on the trade block. Berry shut that down.

“The current plan is we would roll with those four,” Berry said, also closing the door on adding a veteran to the mix.

Gabriel went 1-5 as a starter as a rookie after taking over for Joe Flacco in Week 5, finishing the season with 937 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions on a 59.5 completion percentage before being replaced by Sanders.

Taylen Green Gives Browns Explosive Option at QB

The Browns signaled ahead of Day 3 of the draft that adding a quarterback was on the table regardless of who was already in the room.

“We’ll always add talent at the most important position,” Berry said. “That’s full stop. Doesn’t matter who’s in the room. If there’s a quarterback that we like, that’s available to us at the right cost, we’ll add that player.”

Green is unlike any quarterback on the Browns’ roster. At 6-foot-6 and 227 pounds, he is one of the most physically imposing prospects in the class after a record-setting performance at the NFL Scouting Combine.

He posted a 43.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot-2 broad jump, setting quarterback records at the combine, and ran a 4.36 40-yard dash, the third-fastest time ever recorded by a quarterback at the event.

For his career across 53 games with Boise State and Arkansas, Green compiled 9,662 passing yards, 59 passing touchdowns and 35 interceptions, while rushing for 2,405 yards and 35 more scores. Green is a rare physical talent but Berry admitted he has some work to do.

“Very mature young man. Strong makeup and rare physical gifts. He’s going to need some polish with his game, but he has the work ethic and acumen to do so,” Berry said. “We’re looking forward to adding to the roster and the mix in terms of the competition.”

Browns QB Competition Still Likely Between Sanders, Watson

Cleveland’s starting quarterback job remains wide open. The team has yet to establish an official depth chart, though early OTA reps point to a two-man race between Watson — returning from back-to-back Achilles injuries that sidelined him for the entire 2025 season — and Sanders, who took over in Week 12 and started the final seven games.

“The three guys have done a really nice job so far this spring. We’re lucky that we got three days on the grass (in voluntary minicamp),” Berry said. “They all are learning the offense quickly, working through their mistakes, throwing the ball well, but that wouldn’t prevent us from adding a player that we like.”

During Berry’s tenure in Cleveland, the Browns have typically entered training camp carrying four quarterbacks on the roster. That appears to be the plan once again, though the team will need to trim the group before the regular season opener.

New Browns coach Todd Monken has said that he wants to set the depth chart sooner rather than later. Green — while a long shot to see time as a rookie — adds a new twist for Monken to consider.
