Yet another Maxx Crosby report has surfaced, and the Detroit Lions would be wise to look at it and take note.

It’s time to just admit that the Maxx Crosby and Detroit Lions trade talk will never go away. Crosby remains among the most fascinating personalities in the NFL, and that coupled with his strong numbers makes him a hot topic in the league, especially among Lions followers.

Crosby is from Michigan, so even though he’s committed to the Las Vegas Raiders, whenever there’s trade talk, the Detroit Lions are at the top of the chatter. During the offseason, Crosby, of course, was traded to the Baltimore Ravens, but that deal fell through due to a failed physical.

Now, yet another report on the Crosby situation has emerged. This time, it involves the Chicago Bears and Crosby, but seeing how the Bears felt about a possible deal for the player should give the Lions questions about how much they’re really willing to give up to get Crosby in the fold.

Chicago Bears Perhaps Weren’t As Interested in Maxx Crosby as Once Thought

Before the ill-fated trade between the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders with Crosby, the Bears were reported to be interested in trading for the star pass rusher. But, Ben Johnson and the Bears may not have been as interested as once believed.

In a Wednesday, April 15 feature, The Athletic’s Dan Wiederer talked to a source in the NFL who dropped the news that despite the “speculation swirling that [the Bears], too, had offered Las Vegas a pair of first-round picks, that wasn’t the case.”

According to Wiederer’s report, the Bears felt that “serious discussions were needed about Crosby’s age (he’s 28); the weight of his contract; and his health status.” So, when it came down to it, the Chicago Bears “retreated when it became clear the auction was heading well beyond their comfort zone,” he states.

So, the Bears took care of their defensive needs by adding safety Coby Bryant and linebacker Devin Bush to the lineup.

Detroit Lions Could Talk a Note From the Chicago Bears on Maxx Crosby

So, if the Detroit Lions are ever interested in getting Crosby, and that’s a big “if” because Brad Holmes hasn’t expressed any interested in getting a star pass rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson, the should take a note from Chicago. If the Raiders want too much from Crosby, that deal should be off.

While Crosby is still at the top of his game, he is coming off an injury. Plus, at 28, he’s peaking, and trading away too much for him would come back to bite the Lions in a few years. So, yes, Crosby is a talented player who could take the Detroit Lions to the next level. But, they should only do so with the right deal, and we’re not talking a handful of first-round picks.

While Lions general manager Brad Holmes hasn’t expressed interest in selecting an edge high up in the draft, there’s always a chance he’ll break down and do so in the 2026 NFL draft.

This year’s edge class is “an extremely deep group,” according to Tim Twentyman of the Lions’ official website. “There are 10 edge rushers with first-round grades and 25 players total with grades in the first four rounds by NFL Draft Scout.”

So, start praying that Holmes takes a hint and actually picks an edge early in the draft, because this is the year to do so. If he’s not willing to spend with a splashy trade or in free agency, it’s the best remaining option and much better than just letting it ride.
