The Miami Dolphins decided that, once they cut ties with Tua Tagovailoa this offseason, the new front office, led by Jon-Eric Sullivan, would sign former Green Bay Packers QB Malik Willis.

Moreover, in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Dolphins drafted a couple of wideouts to give Willis a few weapons, ensuring the signal-caller has a chance to succeed this upcoming 2026 NFL season.

Still, if Willis doesn’t take advantage of this opportunity, then Miami will have to get back to the drawing board. Nonetheless, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer believes that the Dolphins would be one of four teams that would be most likely to pursue Brendan Sorsby in the NFL Supplemental Draft if the quarterback is banned from college football amid his gambling scandal.

“I have four teams here that I think kept their powder dry for the 2027 draft: The Jets, the Cardinals, the Browns, and the Dolphins,” Breer said during a May 7 appearance on the “Rich Eisen Show.” “I think all four of those teams kicked the can down the road at various levels.

“Obviously, the Jets and the Dolphins went and got Malik Willis. They’ve all kind of patched the position together and basically said they don’t think there’s somebody worthy of taking that high in 2026.

“So they’re allowing themselves the opportunity to extend this out and get to 2027 and take one there. What happens if one of those teams says Brendan Sorsby is as good as any of the kids coming out next year? We’ll throw a second-round pick at it.”

Moreover, if a team like the Dolphins were to consider giving up a second-round pick in next year’s draft, Breer stated what he’s hearing about Sorsby regarding how his game will translate to the NFL level.

“I talked to one offensive coordinator who said to me that he’s not consistent enough yet,“ Breer added. “He said, ‘From an arm-talent perspective, I hate to use the names Caleb Williams and Patrick Mahomes, but I think this kid has some of that.‘

“Zach Wilson was the other name brought up. But guys who have that level of arm talent, he has that sort of ability.

“So if you’re the Cardinals, for example, you could say, ‘We’ll throw a second-round pick at this now, get him in our building for a year and see what happens.‘ And the NFL’s ruling on the situation is going to be part of the equation, too. If he’s suspended for the entire year, can you have him in your building, and can you work with him?”

Dolphins HC Doesn’t Hold Back on Malik Willis Signing

Nonetheless, the Dolphins are high on Willis even though many assume he’s not the long-term answer. Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley appeared on Richard Sherman’s podcast, and he discussed Miami’s decision to sign Willis in free agency and his experience working with him in Green Bay.

“It’s so important – when you get in a free agent, you know what you’re getting,“ Hafley said on the May 5 edition of the podcast. “He was our scout team QB. I communicated with him more than I communicated with Jordan (Love).

“He’s competitive, tough, he can throw the ball. He’s accurate; really accurate down the field. And he’s really athletic, strong, can make plays with his feet. I mean when he breaks the pocket and he’s really accurate. And then on top of all that, I love the person.”
