The Kansas City Chiefs invested a fifth-round pick on wide receiver Cyrus Allen, but it already looks to be paying strong dividends.

Allen has earned some strong buzz with his performance at the team’s rookie minicamp this week, where he has been one of the top producers on offense. While the Chiefs are set at the top of their wide receiver depth chart, there is some room at the bottom and Allen’s strong performance could put him in prime position for a meaningful role this year.

As Chiefs reporter Matt McMullen reported, Allen had one of the top performances at the minicamp on Saturday.

“Cyrus Allen made one of the plays of the day with a leaping, toe-tap reception near the sideline. It was part of another strong afternoon for Allen, who was busy throughout the day,” McMullen shared in a post on X.

Allen had already caught McMullen’s attention on the first day of rookie minicamp on Friday.

“Cyrus Allen had a strong day with several catches, notably a tight-window reception over the middle during 7-on-7,” McMullen shared at the time.

Allen could have a chance to move into a meaningful role if he continues his strong performances. The Athletic’s Jesse Newell gave an early prediction at the final depth chart, noting that the top is set with Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Tyquan Thornton.

Beyond that, there is some room for movement, and Newell predicted that an undrafted rookie could have a chance to grab a roster spot.

“It was surprising that the team didn’t use a top-three-round draft pick on a receiver, which could become a glaring need in 2027 if the team doesn’t re-sign Rice,” Newell noted. “Even as it stands, the Chiefs’ depth chart looks awfully thin at a position that tends to see a high number of injuries. Expect Jeff Caldwell — an undrafted free-agent signing out of Cincinnati — to get plenty of attention over the next few weeks for this reason.”

Cyrus Allen Ready to Succeed in the NFL

Allen spoke to reporters at Friday’s minicamp, saying he believes his college journey that took him to three schools helped prepare him to succeed in the NFL.

“Most definitely. I met a lot of great coaches (and) got a lot of great coaching from them guys,” Allen said, via USA Today’s Chiefs Wire. “(I) played with a lot of good players and just taking a lot of knowledge of the game from different coaches and different players was tremendously good for me, so definitely.”

Allen admitted that it’s been a big transition moving to the NFL, but said he has been putting everything into learning the playbook and preparing for training camp.

“I’m swimming a little bit; I can’t lie to you, but it’s good. I’m learning everything, learning different positions (and) learning what everybody has,” said Allen, “That’s how I like to learn, so it will probably be a little harder for me, but it’s good. I’ve been learning everything, and everything has been good.”
