Newly acquired Philadelphia Eagles pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired Pro Bowl pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard during the 2026 NFL draft

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman continues to play chess while everyone else plays checkers.

Roseman, who has developed a reputation for coming out on top in nearly every trade he’s made right before or during the NFL draft, has seemingly done it again.

After losing edge-rusher Jaelan Phillips to a four-year, $120 million deal with the Carolina Panthers in free agency, the Eagles needed to find a way to upgrade their pass-rush — and Roseman delivered.

Eagles Acquire Pro Bowl DE From Vikings

Toward the end of the second round of the 2026 NFL draft, ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke news that the Eagles had swung a deal with the Minnesota Vikings for pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard.

“The Minnesota Vikings have sent Pro Bowl linebacker Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round pick tonight and a third-round pick next year,” Schefter stated.

“The Eagles have already reached an agreement with Jonathan Greenard on a four-year, $100 million deal. The Vikings save cap space, get two third-round picks back in return, and the Eagles make another move to bolster their defense to continue wheeling and dealing.”

The 28-year-old Greenard had a down year in 2025 (47 pressures, 35 hurries, 38 tackles, 3 sacks, a forced fumble in 12 games), but he was a forced to be reckoned with before that.

The Florida alum record 12 sacks in 2024, 12.5 in 2023, and 8 in 2021, and when healthy, that’s the kind of production the Eagles are presumably expecting out of him. Greenard has totaled 228 pressures, 147 pressures, 41 QB hits, and 38 sacks in his career.

The Eagles pass-rush looks much more formidable now with Greenard’s addition adding to defensive tackles Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Moro Ojomo, and linebackers Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith Jr.

Eagles Draft Offensive Weapon Right Before Trade

Moments before Schefter broke the news of the Greenard trade, the Eagles drafted Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers with the 54th overall pick.

Stowers was one of the best tight ends in the country last season. He led all TEs in receiving yards (769), and he ranked second in catches (62), and 26th in touchdowns (4). He totaled 146 receptions, 1,773 yards, and 11 touchdowns in three college seasons.

Dallas Goedert is the unquestioned starter, but Stowers will likely compete with Grant Calcaterra for the TE2 spot.
