Since striking gold with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during a Super Bowl-winning season and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins in its 1st season in 2023, the hit Netflix series “Quarterback” has gone from an upbeat, epic, bingeable docu-series to a pretty tough watch.

The new season looks to be more of the same after the streaming service announced the 4 quarterbacks it followed in 2025: Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, Cleveland Browns/Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco, and Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward.

That’s 4 quarterbacks who finished with 4 losing records.

Not exactly what you’d call appointment viewing.

The 2nd season featured Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who proved to be a pretty tough hang, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who proved to be pretty boring, and Cousins, again, although this time he tore his Achilles tendon in Week 8.

“Netflix is bringing back ‘Quarterback’ for Season 3, featuring Jayden Daniels, Joe Flacco, Baker Mayfield, and Cam Ward,” The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov wrote on his official X account on Wednesday. “The series will premiere July 14.”

Four Quarterbacks, 4 Miserable Outcomes

Through the 1st 6 weeks of the 2025 NFL regular season, Mayfield’s name was being tossed around as a possible MVP candidate thanks to a 5-1 start.

Things got pretty messy after that. The Buccaneers wound up finishing the season 8-9 and missed the playoffs for the 1st time since 2019.

If anything, Mayfield’s nightmare year will only be offset by Netflix viewers having to watch Daniels miss 10 games, Flacco switch from 1 miserable team to another in the middle of the year, and Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, get his brains beaten in on the way to a 3-14 regular-season record.

Baker Mayfield Playing for Big Money in 2026

The really interesting version of the series for Mayfield would have been following him during the 2026 regular season — he’s in the final season of a 3-year, $100 million contract and playing for what could be a massive contract extension.

The Buccaneers still have a chance to head off some of that drama by signing him before training camp, which Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti predicts will happen.

In Ginnitti’s model, Mayfield has a top-end value of a 4-year, $215 million contract at $53.75 million per year, but he predicts the offer will come in at a 3-year, $155 million extension before training camp starts.

“Baker didn’t match the magic of 2024 this past season, but he’s shown more than enough to warrant a few more guaranteed years at a pay level more commensurate to his production,” Ginnitti wrote. “$55M per year seems to be the going rate for this type of player these days.”

Mayfield, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, played for the Buccaneers in 2023 on a 1-year, $3 million “prove it” contract and earned his 1st 2 Pro Bowl selections and led the team to consecutive NFC South Division titles in his 1st 2 seasons.
