NFL insider Jeremy Fowler believes that the Vikings are going to be methodical in free agency this offseason
The Minnesota Vikings are fresh off the 2026 NFL Draft, but they are still looking to make moves, even with the offseason set to enter a very quiet phase. The team is currently hosting wide receiver Jauan Jennings on a free agent visit, and now, it sounds like more changes are coming for their front office.
Earlier this offseason, the Vikings surprised folks when they decided to fire general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah from seemingly out of nowhere. Rob Brzezinski was named the team’s interim general manager, with the plan being for Minnesota to find a new full-time option after the draft. Well, now that the draft is in the books, the Vikings are beginning their search for Adofo-Mensah’s proper replacement.
In May 2025, the Vikings signed Adofo-Mensah to a multi-year contract extension, which seemingly solidified his future with the team. Instead, less than a full year after he put pen to paper on that deal, he wound up getting fired by Minnesota after it labored through a season that resulted in it missing the playoffs entirely.
For all intents and purposes, Adofo-Mensah did a decent job with the Vikings, as many folks would agree that they are really a quarterback away from being a consistent title contender. And yet, he still got the ax, with Brzezinski curiously being tabbed as his replacement until the completion of the 2026 draft.
Regardless of the reasoning for either of those decisions, Minnesota laid out a plan for itself when it came to filling out its front office ahead of the upcoming season. While Brzezinski has earned praise for his handling of the situation, the Vikings are moving forward with their aforementioned plan, as they have begun a search for Adofo-Mensah’s proper replacement.
“With the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft, our search for the next general manager of the Minnesota Vikings is underway,” the team announced as part of an official statement on X. “This will be a thorough and deliberate process led by ownership, with support from a small internal advisory of senior leaders … Our focus is to identify a decisive leader with a clear vision for team building, strong communication skills and the ability to build alignment across an organization.”

The Vikings’ handling of their general manager search has certainly been odd, but if it ends up working, they surely won’t complain. The decision to fire Adofo-Mensah was polarizing to say the least, but the easiest way to quiet the skeptics is to find a candidate who is simply better than him. It will obviously take a while to establish whether or not Minnesota has managed to do that, so time will tell whether or not this was the right move.
Whoever ends up being the team’s new general manager will inherit a less-than-stellar cap situation, but there’s a lot of talent on both sides of the roster. If the Vikings can get some solid play from either Kyler Murray or J.J. McCarthy under center next season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them find their way back to the playoffs in 2026.
