Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams could end up among the proverbial “losers” of the blockbuster trade sending three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence from the New York Giants to the Cincinnati Bengals for the 10th overall pick in the 2026 draft.

There has been plenty of smoke around the Rams and a potential move into the top 10 for Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson. However, the Giants also like Tyson.

However, all might not be lost for the Rams in terms of landing Tyson, if he is indeed a target.

Rams Get Promising Alternative Draft Outlook

Tyson was already unlikely to make it to the Rams at 13th overall, and the LA’s appetite for a trade to move up is unknown.

The Giants might not be the team they need to worry themselves over, though.

“There’s also a scenario in which the NYG get their OL ([Francis] Mauigoa or [Spencer] Fano) at 5 and get DS [Caleb] Downs at 10!” The Ringer’s Todd McShay posted on X, adding another layer of speculation.

That would be close to ideal for the Rams if they are targeting Tyson. He posted 2,282 yards and 22 touchdowns on 158 receptions over the past four seasons.

The Rams would still need the WR-needy Miami Dolphins to pass on Tyson.

Similar to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 12, the Rams are already in good shape at wide receiver with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. LA also has productive contributors in Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith, and they drafted Konata Mumpfield last offseason.

Nacua is due for an extension, but he has battled injuries. Adams will turn 34 during the season and also dealt with injuries last season.

The others are simply unproven or do not possess the same ceiling as Tyson.

Blockbuster Trade Shakes Rams Nation

Tyson’s stock has risen considerably, or at least recovered from the dip it suffered this offseason. There were questions about his durability and toughness. The Rams emerged as a potential landing spot with their visit to see his workout.

The Giants trade, combined with their interest in Tyson, led to doubts he would be there for LA.

“Aaaaand there goes Jordyn Tyson in the top-10,” Underdog’s Sosa Kremenjas posted on X on April 18 in reaction to the news that the Giants recently met with Tyson for dinner the night before his workout, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. “Rams are gonna need to move up to No. 6 or 7 if he even makes it past 5, but the chances of drafting Jordyn Tyson just nosedived.”

The Rams Wire’s Cameron Dasilva reacted more broadly, posting that “The Rams’ chances of landing a top WR just plummeted,” on X.

The Rams attended Tyson’s workout for teams. The Giants, who also own the fifth overall pick of the draft, have been most prominently linked to Tyson. That stands out with the draft less than one week away.

Rams Could Still Land ‘Top’ WR in 2026 Draft

ESPN projected former Ohio State star Carnell Tate to come off the board to the Giants with the fifth pick before their trade up for the 10th selection.

If Tyson has leapfrogged Tate, that could push the latter to the Dolphins.

In that scenario, the Rams could come away with USC’s Makai Lemon. Some consider him the top WR prospect in this class. The Rams have also shown interest in various offensive tackle and linebacker prospects.
