Over the last couple of months, the rumors connecting the New England Patriots to Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown have been endless.
Truthfully, those rumors go back past this offseason. The Patriots have been connected to Brown since making the move to hire head coach Mike Vrabel.
Of course, that is no surprise as Brown and Vrabel had a good relationship during their time with the Tennessee Titans together. Now, it seems like New England has a good chance to pulling off a trade for Brown before the end of the 2026 NFL offseason.
Brown has had his fair share of bad moments with the Eagles. One moment stands out above the rest, when Brown started reading a book on the sideline during a game. A fresh start could be exactly what both he and Philadelphia need.
With that being said, a new update has been shared from ESPN insider Adam Schefter about a potential Patriots trade for Brown.
During an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Monday, Schefter revealed what New England would likely have to give up in order to acquire Brown from the Eagles.
In addition, Schefter boldly revealed his belief that a deal will get done this offseason.
“I expect that this trade will come together in June 1st. It’s not gonna be hard to get done,” Schefter said.
“The Eagles are open to moving him, the Patriots want him, and I believe in the end it will involve a future first-round draft pick. My guess is 2028 — one in 2028. But, let’s see what the two sides finally figure out there in the end.”
As the Patriots look to win another Super Bowl and after making it to the big game last season, Robert Kraft and company likely wouldn’t bat an eye at a 2028 first-round pick. Brown could very well be the missing piece that powers the team to a championship.
Last season with Philadelphia, the 28-year-old star wideout played in 15 regular season games. He caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns.
Brown has recorded 1,000-yard receiving seasons in six of his seven NFL campaigns. Even with his situation on the Eagles getting worse, he remained a deadly threat.
Making the move to New England would give Brown a fresh start. He would be playing alongside Drake Maye, who is one of the top rising stars in the NFL. That alone would make the situation extremely intriguing.
Expect to hear more about a potential Brown trade in the near future. For now, Schefter is expecting the deal to get done and thinks it’ll be a 2028 first-round pick when all is said and done.
