The New York Jets had hopes of going to Germany to play the Detroit Lions in 2026.
That request was rejected, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
“The Jets were among the teams that volunteered to go to Germany for their road game against the Lions — the NFL wound up choosing the Patriots. (They weren’t the only team to volunteer.)” Rosenblatt posted on X.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero revealed that the entire 2026 international slate is set.

All in all, there will be nine international games this season, but none of them will include the Jets. They have been officially snubbed.
That news shouldn’t be overly surprising. Gang Green has been on the worst tailspin of their franchise’s history. They haven’t made the playoffs in 15 years, and that drought is still active. There has never been a point in the history of the New York Jets or the New York Titans that they have missed the postseason for this length of time.
Over that span of time, the Jets have only had one winning season. So not only are they not making the playoffs, but more often than not, they haven’t even been competitive.
Until that changes, the Jets aren’t going to be prominently featured in international windows or prime time games for that matter.
We know the Jets are starting the 2026 season on the road. An array of other NFL announcements have confirmed that this week.
However, we haven’t known exactly which opponent the Jets will be facing off against.
Longtime columnist Gary Myers posted on X/Twitter that the Jets will be opening up the season against the Miami Dolphins, per Rick DiPietro on “DiPietro & Rothenberg” on ESPN New York.
Rick also revealed that the Minnesota Vikings will travel to play the Jets in Week 2 at MetLife Stadium. That would serve as the home opener for the green and white if that information is accurate.

NFL Insider Matt Lombardo told me on “The Manchild Show with Boy Green Digital” that it would be a great result for the Jets.
Lombardo explained that the Dolphins aren’t expected to be very good this year. In other words, this is a winnable game for the Jets.
Last season, head coach Aaron Glenn started 0-7 before he got his first win. The Jets can’t have that happen again, or else all hell could break loose.
Glenn is in one of the hottest seats of any NFL head coach heading into the season. The key for Glenn is starting fast. If the Jets can win some games early, that should quiet a lot of the noise about his job security.
The Jets have several road opponents on the schedule that would be far more appealing than others. Games against opponents like the Arizona Cardinals, Dolphins, and Tennessee Titans certainly fit the bill as winnable contests.
