Former Iowa receiver Kaden Wetjen reveals he was in a weird NFL Draft location when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the fourth round.
The NFL draft is synonymous with the emotional calls to players letting them know that they have achieved a lifelong goal. Normally this is surrounded by family celebrating the accomplishment, however, for one player it was very different.
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Kaden Wetjen with the 121st pick of the draft in the fourth round, except like many of us on the weekend he was at the golf course.
The hilarious video shows Wetjen on the phone with the Steelers before watching the selection all from his phone while at the golf course.

The internet is on fire with the reaction with one user writing, “Kaden Wetjen just wants to golf, hunt and run through 11 dudes to house a return. Not sure I’ve ever seen someone so stoic about getting drafted. He might join Chris Boswell in the serial killer category of Steelers special teamers.

Wetjen had this to say about the viral video, “The plan was to kind of have everybody over tonight. Thankfully it happened earlier than we expected and I didn’t shank it into the pond after I got picked.”
WR/KR Kaden Wetjen said he was on the golf course and not expecting to be picked on the fourth round. “The plan was to kind of have everybody over tonight. Thankfully it happened earlier than we expected and I didn’t shank it into the pond after I got picked.”
Brooke Pryor believes the Steelers may have reached on Wetjen,
“The Steelers might have reached on Wetjen, a return specialist and slot receiver, by using a fourth-round pick on the Iowa prospect. But after losing Calvin Austin III and Kenneth Gainwell in free agency, the Steelers had a void to fill at returner,” Pryor wrote.
“Wetjen’s 26.8-yard punt return average led FBS, and he was a two-time Big Ten return specialist of the year. Steelers special teams coordinator Danny Crossman said Wetjen was their highest-rated dual return specialist, and it was important to land him with the league’s continued implementation of the dynamic kick return.”
As Pryor noted the Steelers’ return game will take a blow after losing Gainwell and Austin, the Steelers also lost long-time Special Teams Coordinator Danny Smith to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rob Gregson of AtoZsports graded the pick as a C- writing,
“He was one of the most explosive and dynamic returners in the country during his time at the University of Iowa,” Gregson wrote. “So what’s the problem? Well, that’s all he really brings to the table. At 5-9 and 193 pounds, he totaled 197 receiving yards during his three years with Iowa. He’s essentially Calvin Austin III’s replacement, but without the pass-catching upside. Using a fourth-round pick on that sort of player, when the player himself said that he was surprised to get drafted that early, is well, head-scratching.”
In three years on the field for the Hawkeyes Wetjen returned 56 kick-offs for 1,538 yards and two touchdowns, he also returned 54 punts for 954 yards and four touchdowns averaging 27.5 and 17.7 yards per return, respectively. He had 23 career receptions for 197 yards and a touchdown
In 2025 he led the Big Ten in kick return average and kick return touchdowns. He also led the country in punt return yards, punt return average and punt return touchdowns.
Wetjen was also named a 2025 consensus All-American as a returner.
