The NFL Draft provides some of the best moments of the calendar year for the sport of football. As it is set to take place in the city of Pittsburgh next week, fans should expect a number of Pittsburgh Steelers legends to show up and show out for the historic organization.

As it so happens, one legendary Steelers head coach is set to be an analyst during the first round of the draft. According to former NFL punter and current host Pat McAfee, Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Cowher is set to be an analyst on The Pat McAfee Show during round one.

Bill Cowher Kept the Pittsburgh Steelers Standard Intact

Here is what McAfee had to say as he broke the news about Cowher joining the program for the draft:

“Coach Bill Cowher will be joining us. Yeah, Coach Bill Cowher will be live on the set. I’ll tell you, I talked to him yesterday. He’s excited. ‘Homework time’ is the last thing he said…We’re going to try to piece together the best draft coverage that we possibly can.”

The move by McAfee to bring on Cowher as a correspondent is not unique. During last year’s draft, McAfee ironically had former Green Bay Packers and current Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy on as an analyst. McCarthy previously won a title in Green Bay.

Cowher, much like his predecessor, Chuck Knoll, built a legendary legacy in the Steel City as the team’s head coach for 15 years. He guided the team to 11 winning seasons, 10 playoff appearances, eight division titles, six AFC Championship games, and two Super Bowl appearances. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020, Cowher is known as one of the faces of the Steelers’ organization. His expertise on the draft is sure to be much appreciated.

Mike McCarthy Looks to Replicate Steelers Head-Coaching Success

After Cowher came another Super Bowl-winning head coach in Mike Tomlin. Before stepping down after 19 years as the team’s head coach, Tomlin won over 200 games in the NFL, including playoffs. Now, it is time for McCarthy to take the reins as the head coach in Pittsburgh.

After guiding the Packers to nine playoff appearances, six NFC North titles, and that aforementioned Super Bowl title, he then helped the Dallas Cowboys win at least 12 games in three consecutive seasons. While he might not be Bill Belichick, he’s on his way to becoming a Hall of Famer if he can win a lot in the Steel City.

Of course, a lot of his success has been built on coaching and molding great quarterbacks. From Joe Montana and Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott, McCarthy has helped guide some of the best quarterbacks in recent memory. Now, he has a chance to reunite with Rodgers if the four-time MVP and Super Bowl MVP decides to return for one last bite at the apple.
