The San Francisco 49ers have to wait until tomorrow to make their first selection of the 2026 NFL Draft. The 49ers made two trades on the first night of the draft.

They traded their 27th and 138th overall picks to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the 30th and 90th overall picks, according to Jordan Schultz. The 49ers were not done yet. They then traded that 30th overall pick to the New York Jets for the 33rd and 179th overall picks, according to Adam Schefter.

With the 33rd pick, the 49ers are set to have the first pick of the second round tomorrow, Apr. 24.

“We have a good idea of where we’re going,” GM John Lynch told Matt Maiocco.

If they keep the pick, here are 5 potential players they could select:

1. WR Denzel Boston, Washington

Boston is the best wide receiver available, according to ESPN’s Mel Kiper. The Washington wideout would add to a rebuilt receiver room in San Francisco.

The 49ers are expected to lose Jauan Jennings and Brandon Aiyuk. Jennings, who is still a free agent, led all 49ers receivers in yards with 643. They also lost their second leading receiver, Kendrick Bourne, who joined the Arizona Cardinals in free agency.

The 49ers did sign veteran receivers Mike Evans and Christian Kirk in the offseason to pair with former first-round pick Ricky Pearsall. But Evans only played in 8 games due to injuries. Pearsall also missed 9 games.

Boston would immediately provide youth and depth to a group that lacks them.

2. Safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, Toledo

While the 49ers return their two starting safeties from last season, there is still an opportunity to upgrade at the position. McNeil-Warren has a large 6-foot-4-inch frame. He is the second-best overall player available, according to Mel Kiper.

Starting free safety Ji’Ayir Brown and strong safety Malik Mustapha have manned their positions for the past two seasons. Brown is a former 2023 third-round pick, and Mustapha is a 2024 fourth-rounder. The 49ers could be in search of a better playmaker at the position, as Brown and Mustapha have only combined for 7 interceptions in their career.

3. EDGEs Cashius Howell, Texas A&M and Zion Young, Missouri

The A&M edge rusher finished second in the SEC with 11.5 sacks, while the Missouri defensive lineman earned first-team all-SEC last season.

The 49ers used their first, second, and fourth round picks on defensive linemen last season. But the 49ers’ defensive front finished last in the NFL in sacks (20) last year and could use another player to help bolster that position.

All-Pro Nick Bosa and last year’s first-rounder Mykel Williams suffered season-ending injuries. The 49ers also lost their sack leader, Bryce Huff, after he announced his retirement.

4. OG Chase Bisontis, Texas A&M

The 49ers have an opening at the left guard position. Bisontis started at guard for the Aggies the past two seasons. He is also the best available offensive lineman, according to Mel Kiper.

Last season’s starting left guard, Spencer Burford, left in free agency. Even though the 49ers signed Brett Toth and Robert Jones to provide veteran offensive line depth and compete for the position, the 49ers could use another body to help protect Brock Purdy.

5. CB Jermod McCoy, Tennessee

McCoy is the best available player and the second-best cornerback in the NFL Draft, according to Mel Kiper. He tore his ACL in January of 2025, causing him to miss all of last season. But in 2024, he led the team with 13 passes defended and tied for the team lead with 4 interceptions.

The 49ers don’t have an immediate need at cornerback. They return star defensive back Deommodore Lenoir and former 2024 second-round pick Renardo Green. Lenoir’s job is safe, but recent trade rumors about Green could mean an opening for McCoy.
