The X post from the account Shadow, @FeelLikeMafe, read: “Sam Darnold got dreads now?? We not playing fair this year,” alongside an image that appeared to show Darnold with cornrows, contradicting the premise of the post. The post quickly spread across Seahawks and NFL circles, and a screenshot of the post showed more than 338,000 views within hours.

That is where the important distinction starts: the post was viral, but it was not proof.

No Seahawks official pages provides any confirmation of a dramatic hairstyle change, and the viral post itself was framed more like fan humor than a team update. Yet that didn’t stop people from searching “Sam Darnold hair.”
