Texans’ C.J. Stroud Draws Attention With Potentially Time...

C.J. Stroud broke his run of offseason silence on social media.

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is aware of the discourse around him this offseason, and he has been hard at work to improve as much as he can during these past few months, just as he said that he would.

With the noise continuing amid another teammate’s contract extension, Stroud has broken his run of silence on social media this offseason.

The message is crystal clear, too.

Texans’ C.J. Stroud Sends Attention-Grabbing Message

GettyC.J. Stroud broke his offseason social media silence with a strong message.

Stroud has faced scrutiny for his struggles in the postseason, with multiple turnovers in the Texans’ playoff games. He has largely remained quiet amid the storm of opinions. That is, until Saturday, when Stroud dropped a slideshow of images featuring strong words.

“Change is inevitable, Growth is intentional,” Stroud said in the caption of the post on Instagram on May 2.

“For me not you.”

Stroud still faces some uncertainty around his future with the Texans, who picked up his option but have not worked out a long-term extension with their starting quarterback.

Will Anderson jr dropped photos on his IG story and got an extension the next day,” Houston Stressans posted on X on May 2. “Azeez al-Shaair shared scouting reports on his IG and got an extension the next day.

“CJ stroud just posted for the first time all offseason [face with monocle emoji].”

The Texans signed Anderson to a market-resetting three-year, $150 million contract extension earlier this offseason, while Al-Shaair received a three-year, $54 million pact.

Reactions Pour In for C.J. Stroud

GettyTeammates past and present reacted strongly to C.J. Stroud’s message.

Stroud’s message and post drew teammates past and present to the comments, including Anderson, who left hands together/praying and fire emojis. Former Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs also shared several emojis, his of clapping hands.

Current Texans wideout and Stroud’s friend Tank Dell, who is working his way back from an  injury that sidelined him all of last season, said, Soon enough we spin [heart emoji].”

Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels said, “it’s gonna show up brother!”

Texans left tackle Aireontae Ersery posted, “U Him [flexing bicep emoji],” while safety Calen Bullock said, “God’s favorite [“100” and crossed fingers emojis].” Former Texans safety Jalen Mills simply posted a No. 7 emoji, in reference to Stroud’s jersey number.

Christian Kirk, who spent the 2025 season with the Texans, posted that he was “proud” of Stroud, and ex-NFL safety Ryan Clark said, “It’s your race Young [crown emoji, i.e., “king”]!

Texans Taking Risk at QB

GettyC.J. Stroud and Houston Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley are both under the microscope.

The Texans are taking a significant risk, but likely one they are willing to endure if the result is that Stroud returns closer to his rookie-season form.

He is on the books for $11.5 million in 2026, and he will count $25.9 million against the cap in 2027 on his fifth-year option. A three-year, $185 million contract extension would fit the Texans’ pattern in terms of contract length and (narrowly) reset the QB market in terms of annual value.

The next hurdle would be guaranteed money, but the lower total value would help Houston.

They could fully guarantee such a contract and still have only handed out the seventh-highest amount in the league, tied with two-time MVP Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.

The longer the Texans wait, the more likely they are to have to pay more for Stroud if he lives up to expectations. The reward of that option, which it appears as though they are indeed on, is that if Stroud struggles again, the Texans are not committed long-term.

That is, unless Stroud was indeed tipping what the Texans have planned.
