The Minnesota Vikings are hoping to get back to being a serious contender in the NFC during the upcoming 2026 NFL season.
After being one of the best teams in the league just two years ago, the Vikings fell apart last season. Their decision to move on from quarterback Sam Darnold was a mistake. J.J. McCarthy was unable to prove that he can be an NFL starter.
Darnold, on the other hand, went on to lead the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl win.
This offseason, Minnesota chose to sign former Arizona Cardinals quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray. He could help turn things around for the Vikings, but the team now has a need for another weapon at the wide receiver position.
Keeping that in mind, there is an intriguing potential trade target the team should consider.
One potential option for Minnesota could be exploring a trade for Carolina Panthers wideout Xavier Legette.
Legette was drafted by the Panthers with the No. 32 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he has yet to develop into the player many thought he could be.
During the 2025 season with Carolina, the 25-year-old wideout played in 15 games. He caught 35 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns. Those numbers aren’t going to get the job done.
It’s possible that the Panthers could hold onto him for one more year. They might still believe that he can become a legitimate No. 2 option behind Tetairoa McMillan. Or, there is a chance that they would be willing to trade him for some draft capital.
Should the Vikings have interest in Legette and Carolina be open to trading him, what could a potential deal between the two teams look like? Here is one possible scenario.
Minnesota Vikings Get: Xavier Legette
Carolina Panthers Get: Two 5th-Round Draft Picks
This trade could check the boxes for both teams. Minnesota would get the No. 3 wide receiver that it needs behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. As for the Panthers, they would add a couple of fifth-round picks to add more young talent in the future.
Legette has the talent to develop into being a legitimate playmaker. There is no denying that fact. However, there would be risk with trading for him.
Only time will tell whether or not the Vikings are able to acquire a No. 3 wide receiver. Another option could be signing a player like Jauan Jennings.
That being said, Legette would be an intriguing trade target who could come cheap with high upside.
