NFL Schedule Leak Reveals Patriots vs. Chiefs Monday Night Showdown in Week 15

A leaked portion of the 2026 NFL schedule revealed the Patriots will travel to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs on Monday Night Football in Week 15.

The Patriots will face Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday Night Football in Week 15, according to a schedule leak that surfaced Thursday ahead of the NFL’s full 2026 release. The matchup between last season’s AFC champion and the conference champs for three consecutive seasons before that is likely to be a crucial one for both teams’ playoff aspirations.

The prime-time December showdown arrives as one of the NFL’s most anticipated 2026 clashes, in a dream quarterback matchup pairing Drake Maye and his rising Patriots against a Kansas City team still navigating two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes‘ recovery from major knee surgery after last season’s collapse.

Scott Zolak of 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston earlier said that New England would face Kansas City at Arrowhead on Thanksgiving. Instead, according to the NFL schedule leak Thursday morning, the teams will face off on Dec. 21. The leak, reported by Patriots insider Justin Ramos, arrived shortly after reports placing the Patriots in Seattle for their Week 1 opener, a Super Bowl LX rematch, and in Munich, Germany, against the Detroit Lions in Week 10.

New England Patriots Week 15 Chiefs Matchup

The Week 15 trip to Arrowhead will be the latest in a rich history. The Chiefs lead the all-time series against New England 21-16-3, but the Patriots have stayed ahead of Kansas City in their postseason games, going 2-0 in the playoffs. The most recent game between the clubs came in December 2023, a 27-17 Chiefs victory at Gillette Stadium that extended Kansas City’s current regular-season winning streak in the series to three straight.

A late-season Monday Night Football matchup between these franchises figures to rank among the year’s most-watched regular-season games no matter where each team stands in the standings come December.

Patriots, Chiefs Each Face 2026 QB Questions

The intrigue around the Week 15 date runs deeper than rivalry history. Both teams arrive in 2026 with quarterback storylines that will define their seasons well before December arrives.

For New England, the question is not whether the 23-year-old Maye can play — he finished 2025 as an MVP finalist, throwing for 4,394 yards with 31 touchdowns and only eight interceptions — but whether his offensive line can hold up. NFL executives have flagged New England’s pass protection as the roster’s most exposed weakness entering the new year. Maye absorbed 47 sacks in the regular season last time around, and he took another 21 in just four postseason games.

Kansas City’s uncertainty is even more troubling. Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in Week 15 of the 2025 season, ending a dismal 6-11 campaign that snapped the Chiefs’ nine-year run of AFC West titles and decade-long stretch of consecutive playoff appearances. Coach Andy Reid told reporters on May 3 that Mahomes is tracking toward OTA participation beginning May 26, according to ESPN‘s Nate Taylor, though how he’ll be feeling heading into December remains anyone’s guess.

Kansas City also added Kenneth Walker III at running back, a move built to reduce the load on Mahomes. Tight end Travis Kelce’s return for what could be a final season gives the Chiefs their offensive anchor.

The Patriots’ leaked schedule already includes some exciting matchups, including a Week 7 Thursday Night Football contest between two fast-rising quarterbacks, when Maye and New England take on Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears. But the Week 15 trip to Arrowhead may become the defining moment of New England’s 2026 regular season. The NFL’s official release of the full schedule is projected for 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday.
