Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan plainly told reporters running back De'Von Achane is not available for trade.

If the Seattle Seahawks are still going to trade for a running back this offseason, it’s very likely not going to be De’Von Achane.

Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan told reporters Wednesday that Achane is “not available for trade.” Instead, the Dolphins are trying to sign the running back to a second contract.

“Things are going good. We’ve had some positive conversations over the last couple days. Trending in the right direction,” said Sullivan.

“Obviously, he’s very important to what we’re doing. It’s all part of it; it’s part of professional sports. We’ll get to where we need to be one way or another, but yeah, things are trending in the right direction.”

Achane became a rumored trade target this offseason after the Dolphins began unloading their other offensive stars. Miami released quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and receiver Tyreek Hill and then traded fellow wideout Jaylen Waddle.

Pundits naturally linked Achane to the Seahawks because they haven’t added a new starter to replace Kenneth Walker this offseason.

Achane ran for 1,350 yards with eight touchdowns last season. He led the NFL with a 5.7 yards per carry during 2025. Achane also caught 67 passes for 488 yards with four additional scores.

Seahawks Probably Won’t Be Adding De’Von Achane Before 2026

In addition to the Dolphins turning over their roster under a new general manager and first-year NFL head coach Jeff Hafley, Achane needs a new contract after 2026. That led to the incitement of a lot of Achane trade rumors as well.

Achane has earned a sizable raise. Only four running backs had more rushing yards and just five had more yards from scrimmage than Achane during 2025.

But the Dolphins appear set on the running back receiving his next contract in Miami.

On March 18, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported teams had inquired with the Dolphins about Achane. However, Sullivan told teams at that point he wasn’t available.

It’s not clear which teams inquired and what they may have offered for the fourth-year running back.

Seahawks RB Depth Entering 2026 NFL Draft

Without Achane available, the Seahawks will have to turn their attention elsewhere. But it’s important to note that general manager John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald have expressed quite a bit of confidence in who the team already has at running back.

Schneider also said on Seattle Sports on March 19 “that’s a position that you can find guys.” Through the first month of free agency, the Seahawks have only found former backup Emanuel Wilson, but some pundits think very highly of him.

Wilson could pair with Zach Charbonnet, once the later returns healthy, to be the 1-2 running back combination to replace Walker.

Pundits have also floated the Seahawks as a potential landing spot for remaining veteran free agents such as Najee Harris and Raheem Mostert. The Seahawks could target a running back on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft as well.

Of those options, Achane was, by far, the best one. But the Seahawks have other potential choices, and it’s not like they are absolutely desperate for a running back either.

In addition to Wilson and Charbonnet, they have running backs George Holani, Kenny McIntosh, Cam Akers, Velus Jones Jr. and Jacardia Wright on the roster.
