FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — When he signed with the New England Patriots this offseason, Romeo Doubs made it clear that he wasn’t coming in with one specific role in mind. Instead, the wide receiver arrived with a team-first mentality, wanting to help in any way he could.

So, with all the buzz about a potential (and likely) trade for A.J. Brown, Doubs was asked how he feels about the possibility, especially because it could impact his responsibilities this season.

“I was true to my word when I came here that there is no number one guy in this offense,” Doubs told reporters on Tuesday. “So, whatever it is I have to do, whether it’s playing into the strength more or playing on the backside every here and now, or even having (revolving roles), which I’m really familiar with because I’ve done it in Green Bay also.

“I’m open to all roles. That’s just part of this league. You know, the more you can do, the more you can do for the team, the more you show for yourself, just things of that nature.”

Romeo Doubs Has ‘A Ton Of Respect’ For A.J. Brown

Doubs also took a moment to praise the receiver on Tuesday.

“I have a ton of respect for him,” Doubs said. “I mean, he’s been a dude in this league for quite a long time. I understand that when he first got in the league, Coach Vrabel was his coach. So again, I understand there are a lot of rumors going around. If he’s here, I’d love to have him here, and if he isn’t here, I’m still going to wish him the best because he’s one of the guys this week. best in this league.”

Across his career, Brown is Super Bowl champion, three-time second-team All-Pro, three-time Pro Bowler, and has recorded six 1,000-yard campaigns across seven seasons. His resume certainly speaks for itself and his familiarity with head coach Mike Vrabel makes the Patriots the perfect landing spot.

Just imagine a wide receiver room with Brown and Doubs…

Former Packers Offensive Lineman Speaks On Patriots Signing Romeo Doubs

Former Packers offensive lineman Mark Tauscher, who co-hosts the “Wilde & Tausch” show on ESPN Milwaukee, spoke with ESPN’s Mike Reiss at the end of March about the Patriots signing Doubs, explaining what his contract equates to in terms of expectations.

“That’s not ‘wide receiver 1’ money. He was a really good ‘2’ here. He could be a really good secondary option, and my guess is that’s how New England views it the way the contract played out,” Tauscher said, referring to Doubs’ four-year contract with a base value of $68 million.

It could reach up to $80 million with incentives, with that setting Doubs up for the opportunity to make a bigger impact.

“That doesn’t mean he’s not going to get more opportunities,” Tauscher added. “There might be some things New England looks at and says, ‘There’s more potential there.'”
