The San Francisco 49ers were able to overcome another brutal season on the injury front in 2025.

Early on in the year, it was clear that the 49ers were in for another disappointing year from an injury perspective. Nick Bosa, the team’s superstar pass rusher, went down with a torn ACL. Both Brock Purdy and George Kittle also missed substantial time.

Following those injuries, San Francisco saw both Mykel Williams and Fred Warner go down with injuries. In the Wild Card playoff matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, Kittle suffered a torn Achilles.

All season long, the 49ers could not get away from injuries. San Francisco has had a rough go of it over the last couple of years.

With that being said, the team’s potential nightmare scenario for 2026 could be all too familiar.

49ers’ Nightmare Scenario Revealed Before 2026 NFL Season

Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon took a look at a nightmare scenario for each team in the NFL. When it came to the 49ers, injuries were at the forefront once again.

“Quite simply, injury luck even remotely resembling what they encountered in 2025 would be a terror for the Niners,” Gagnon wrote.

Gagnon is 100 percent right. Another season full of injuries could be too much for San Francisco to recover from. There are already concerns about Kittle’s status for Week 1.

On paper, the 49ers should be one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the NFC. If they can stay healthy, a successful season should be incoming. However, an injury-riddled season would be far from a surprise at this point.

San Francisco Has Gone All-In on Winning Now

During the 2026 NFL offseason, John Lynch made it clear where he stands. He wants to win a Super Bowl now.

The team’s biggest splash came when it signed superstar wide receiver Mike Evans away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In order to get him, San Francisco had to pay out an aggressive three-year, $42.4 million contract that could get up to $60.4 million with incentives.

Also, the 49ers were able to bring back linebacker Dre Greenlaw in free agency.

Hopefully, the team will be able to stay healthy this year. There is no reason why they can’t compete for a Super Bowl run with good health. But, as fans have seen far too often lately, healthy can be something taken away very quickly.

It will be interesting to see what the 2026 NFL season has in store for San Francisco.
