Stefon Diggs is set to face a critical next step in an ongoing legal case, with jury selection scheduled to begin Monday, May 4, in Massachusetts following months of pre-trial proceedings tied to an alleged December 2025 incident.

The former New England Patriots wide receiver has pleaded not guilty to charges related to assault and strangulation stemming from an encounter at his home in Dedham.

What Diggs Is Accused Of

According to police reports and court filings, the case centers on allegations made by a woman who had been working as Diggs’ personal chef during the 2025 NFL season.

The woman told police she went to Diggs’ home on Dec. 16 to discuss money she said she was owed. During that visit, she alleged the situation escalated into a physical altercation.

In her account to investigators, the woman said Diggs struck her in the face during the dispute. She further alleged that when she attempted to defend herself, Diggs used his arm to apply pressure around her neck.

The report states the woman told police she had difficulty breathing during the encounter and believed she could have lost consciousness.

She also reported redness in her upper chest area following the incident, though no photographs were taken to document the injuries, according to the filing.

Diggs has denied the allegations.

Defense Maintains Diggs’ Innocence

Following his arrest earlier this year, Diggs’ legal team issued a strong denial of the claims.

“He is completely innocent of these false allegations,” his attorney said at the time. “We’re confident that after the facts and evidence are reviewed in this case he will be fully exonerated.”

That position is expected to be central as the case moves into trial, where both sides are set to present testimony.

Key Pre-Trial Rulings

In a pre-trial hearing held Friday, a judge finalized several parameters that will shape how the case is presented to a jury.

Among the key decisions:

  • Diggs’ mother was removed from the potential witness list
  • Testimony is expected to focus primarily on the accuser and responding officers
  • References to any alleged prior incidents involving Diggs will not be permitted during trial

The court also addressed the timing of the report, noting the accuser told prosecutors she waited approximately two weeks to come forward after the alleged incident.

Jurors are expected to be instructed not to consider any excluded prior conduct if it is mentioned during testimony.

Timeline and What Comes Next

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in Dedham District Court, with testimony expected to follow once a jury is seated.

The trial could extend into midweek, depending on how long it takes to select jurors and present evidence.

The case includes both felony and misdemeanor charges, and its outcome could carry significant legal consequences if Diggs is convicted.

NFL Future Remains Unclear

The legal proceedings come at a pivotal moment in Diggs’ career.

After a brief stint with the Patriots during the 2025 season, the veteran wide receiver has not signed with a new team. He finished the year with more than 1,000 receiving yards and four touchdowns but remains a free agent as the NFL offseason continues.

The outcome of the trial could play a significant role in determining his future in the league.

A Very Different Kind of Headline

The trial marks a stark contrast from the other reason Diggs has recently been trending.

In recent days, Diggs drew widespread attention after a photo surfaced showing him alongside Cardi B and their young son, fueling speculation about the status of their relationship.

That moment — widely shared across social media — offered a glimpse into his personal life. Now, attention shifts back to the courtroom, where the stakes are far more serious.
