Browns urged to sign Joey Bosa.

The Detroit Lions are happy with the new edge rusher they landed in the NFL draft, but could still look for more help opposite star Aidan Hutchinson.

The Lions have struggled to find a competent pass rusher to pair with Hutchinson, though did get a strong season from Al-Quadain Muhammad before he left in free agency. One analyst believes the Lions could turn to veteran Joey Bosa, one of the best veterans left on the open market, to help fill the void.

SI.com’s Vito Chirco suggested the Lions could sign Bosa to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 season where they missed the playoffs for the first time in three years.

“Bosa, who suited up for the Buffalo Bills last season, remains one of the league’s most proficient pass-rushers when healthy, and there’s no doubt he’d provide a significant boost to Kelvin Sheppard’s defense,” Chirco wrote.

Though Bosa struggled in run defense and made some costly mistakes, he had a productive season in 2025 with five sacks, 30 quarterback hurries, Chirco noted. He suggested that the Lions shouldn’t stop at edge rusher Derrick Moore, their second-round pick expected to compete for a starting spot opposite Hutchinson.

“Although Detroit just added Moore in the draft, it shouldn’t deter the team from pursuing the highly accomplished Bosa,” Chirco wrote. “In recent seasons, the Lions have learned the hard way that you can never have enough competent pass-rushers. And Bosa, who will be 31 this upcoming season, possesses just the right blend of physical skill and proper technique to remain productive well into his 30s.”

Rookie Expected to Play Big Role

Signing Bosa could help with the development of Moore, who is expected to move into a big role in his first season in Detroit. SI.com’s Matt Verderame suggested that Moore could be the “answer” the Lions have been looking for in their pass-rushing group.

“The Lions have desperately needed some young talent to pair with defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, and Detroit is hoping it has found the answer,” Verderame wrote. “Like Hutchinson, Moore is a former Wolverine who can turn the corner and give defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard an answer if Hutchinson is double-teamed.”

Verderame noted that the former Michigan star comes with a solid resume.

“Moore spent all four of his collegiate seasons at Michigan, winning a national championship in 2023,” Verderame wrote. “Moore started three years, amassing 19 sacks. At 6′ 4″ and 255 pounds, Moore is the perfect size for a sturdy edge rusher who needs to work on his technique against the run.
