SI on Packers' Bill Huber reported wide receiver Chase Claypool didn't earn a roster spot with the Green Bay Packers at the team's rookie minicamp.
Wide receiver Chase Claypool’s time with the Green Bay Packers was short.
Claypool was one of nine players to try out at the team’s rookie minicamp from May 1-2. SI on Packers’ Bill Huber reported Sunday the Packers didn’t sign Claypool or any other tryout players.
“None of them were signed, a source said,” wrote Huber.
“Claypool was the big name. The other eight were undrafted and unsigned free agents. Claypool was a fifth-year pro trying to rekindle what had been a promising career.”
A 2020 second-round pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Claypool is trying to resume his football career. He last played in a regular season game for the Miami Dolphins during 2023.
Claypool posted a pair of 800-yard seasons in receiving to begin his career. As a rookie in 2020, he scored 11 total touchdowns, including four in one game against the Philadelphia Eagles. With that performance, Claypool set a Steelers rookie record and was the first NFL rookie to score four touchdowns in a game since 1979.
But from 2024-25, the wideout averaged 9.8 yards per catch with just 54 receptions in 27 games. He also scored only two touchdowns.
Claypool spent 2024 training camp with the Buffalo Bills. He wasn’t on an NFL roster in 2025.
