The Seattle Seahawks‘ calling card last season on their run to their Super Bowl LX title was their pass rush. During the 2025 campaign, the pass rush was led by Boye Mafe, Derick Hall, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Uchenna Nwosu.

Nonetheless, changes have come to the Seahawks’ pass-rushing group. Mafe moved on in free agency, signing with the Cincinnati Bengals, while the long-term outlook for the others remains up in the air.

Hall is heading into the final year of his rookie deal. Lawrence will be 34 when the 2026 season begins and reportedly considered retirement after the Super Bowl run. Nwosu has battled injuries during his career and is set to turn 30 before the end of 2026.

As a result, speculation has led to Seattle being named a potential landing spot for free-agent edge Joey Bosa. Nonetheless, the Seahawks aren’t the only team that’s seen as an ideal situation for Bosa, as FanSided’s Mark Powell sees the Detroit Lions as the best fit.

“New season, same problem for the Detroit Lions,” Powell wrote in his April 30 article. “Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes need to find a proven pass-rusher opposite of Aidan Hutchinson. The Lions defense took a significant step back last season, and a lot of that can be blamed on the lack of push up front.

“Adding someone like Bosa, a former Pro Bowler at the tail end of his prime, could be the answer. Bosa spent last season with the Buffalo Bills, and at this point in the offseason is a bargain buy.”

Seahawks Named Landing Spot for Joey Bosa

Regarding the Seahawks, the speculation that’s led to Bosa’s name emerging is that PFF’s Bradley Locker sees Seattle as a team that could use someone like the veteran edge rusher.

“The Seahawks witnessed underrated edge defender Boye Mafe head to Cincinnati in free agency but have yet to directly replace his role,” Locker wrote in his April 30 article. “Bosa would be a slam-dunk find.

“The former Pro Bowler bounced back wonderfully in his lone season with the Bills, amassing an 85.5 PFF pass-rush grade that sat eighth among qualified edge defenders. Likewise, Bosa’s 20.1 percent pass-rush win rate on true pass sets placed 17th in that same group.”

Last season with the Buffalo Bills, Bosa finished with an overall PFF grade of 79.3, ranking 17th among 115 qualified edge defenders.

Bosa was especially effective rushing the passer, earning an 88.7 grade in that area, though his run defense was less consistent at 54.6. Over the course of the season, he recorded 47 total pressures, including five sacks, 12 quarterback hits, and 30 hurries. He also added 22 solo tackles and forced five fumbles.

Seattle Gets Two Notable Edge Rusher Names to Pursue

It’s clear the Seahawks need pass-rushing depth if they want to repeat as Super Bowl champions. As a result, Seahawks Radio Network analyst and former NFL wide receiver Bryan Walters highlighted two potential additions for Seattle to consider: Kyle Van Noy and former Seahawk Jadeveon Clowney.

Both players played for head coach Mike Macdonald in 2023, when he was the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive coordinator, which is why their names make sense.

“Both can still do it,” Walters said during an April 27 appearance on Seattle Sports’ “Brock and Salk.” “When you look at Clowney last year, 8.5 sacks with the Cowboys. I think that might be my number one, and then two would be Kyle Van Noy.

“But again, both played in Macdonald’s system. I think that’s the biggest thing. Get guys you’re familiar with, guys that you know, guys you can trust.”
