Cowboys Land Expensive 6-Foot-3 Award-Winning Playmaker for Dak Prescott

The Cowboys landed Baylor tight end Michael Trigg.

The Dallas Cowboys are making notable moves following the NFL draft. Dallas added several new undrafted playmakers, potentially giving Dak Prescott some new weapons to work with after focusing on defense in the draft.

There is a new tight end heading to Dallas that is worth keeping an eye on heading into training camp. The Cowboys agreed to terms with standout Baylor tight end Michael Trigg.

NBC Sports’ Ryan Fowler labeled the move as a “big get” for the Cowboys given his production and athleticism. Trigg measured at just over 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds at the NFL combine.

“Source: Cowboys are signing Baylor TE Michael Trigg as a UDFA.” Fowler detailed in an April 25, 2026, post on X. “Big get for Dallas as one of the top names in the UDFA bucket. Outstanding athletic profile and some of the best hands in the class at the position.”

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Cowboys news.

Cowboys TE Michael Trigg Is Among the Top-5 Highest Paid Undrafted Free Agents After the NFL Draft

The Cowboys appear to have paid a premium for Trigg, at least by UDFA standards. Trigg landed $200,000 in guaranteed money, the fifth most of any undrafted player, per Spotrac.

The tight end agreed to terms on a $25,000 signing bonus with a contract worth $3.1 million if Trigg is able to secure a spot on the Cowboys roster. Trigg was named to the All-Big 12 first team and was also a finalist for the John Mackey Award (given to college football’s top tight end).

During the 2025 season, Trigg posted 50 receptions for 694 yards and six touchdowns in 11 appearances at Baylor. Trigg spent the last two seasons at Baylor but had previous stops at Ole Miss and USC.

Michael Trigg Was Projected to Get Selected in NFL Mock Drafts

Trigg was a riser in the pre-draft process with many analysts predicting the tight end would get drafted. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein gave Trigg a sixth- to seventh-round grade while comparing the tight end to Gerald Everett.

“Long, rangy tight end offering rare arm length, good speed and some alignment versatility,” Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft profile on the Baylor tight end. “Trigg moves like a big wideout with surprising hip sink, foot quickness and fluid transitions to run after the catch. He wins vertically against linebackers and overwhelms defensive backs with size, high-point talent and massive hands that fuel highlight-reel catches.

“He’s still developing as a route-runner and struggles to finish catches through heavy contact. His frame and pad level limit in-line blocking, but he can wall off or stalk block from the slot. Trigg’s field-stretching potential and air space dominance in the red zone should lead to production as a pro.”

Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer on Dak Prescott Amid Breakup With Fiancee Sarah Jane Ramos: ‘He’s in a Really Good Spot’

Prescott has been in the news for non-football reasons this offseason. The Cowboys quarterback and ex-girlfriend Sarah Jane Ramos have called off their wedding that was originally scheduled for April.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer described Prescott as being “in a really good spot.”

“Dak and I have had a ton of conversations,” Schottenheimer said of Prescott during a March 30, media session, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

“He’s in a really good spot. Obviously what he’s dealing with is incredibly tough. But if anyone can handle it, he can.”

In addition to Trigg, the Cowboys signed several offensive weapons as UDFAs, including SMU wideout Jordan Hudson, TCU tight end DJ Rogers, Georgia Southern receiver Camden Brown and Tulsa running back Dominic Richardson.

These rookies face an uphill battle in making the final roster as undrafted free agents. Yet, Trigg has plenty of talent and a strong resume that gives the tight end a chance to make some noise in training camp.
